20. hee hee...
amazing isn't it...he gives one amount, we all complain that it's too little. He gives another amount, we all complain that it's too much. Let's just hope that this massive amount of money is spent well and not like our reconstruction money in Iraq.

23. Yeah, I agree.
The last few days all I've seen have been posts complaining that $35 million was cheap and that the U.S. should give more since we are so rich compared to other countries who are giving much more than the U.S. Now we'll hear about how Bush is spending all our children's money, like he's not already spending for things we'd rather not fund anyway. I don't feel so bad about this $350 million for tsunami relief. Just wish we hadn't of gone to war. That sucks raw gas. Really.

is paving the way for halliburton with the $350,000,000 donation to the devastated areas. We are so much in debt..what's a few more million?

You know he's not doing this out of the goodness of his heart(sic)!

32. You're right, we don't know for sure...
But you had better believe we will be watching how it gets spent and doing what we can to hold him accountable. Regardless, I prefer the possibility that some of the $350,000,000 will get to the people who need the help than the alternative fraction of it first offered.

10. It's not YOUR money.
The money bush* is spending belongs to your CHILDREN.
YOU are still paying for Raygun's Economic Miracle.

I would prefer that bush* and the republicans STEAL My CHILDREN'S MONEY for a good cause, like helping people instead of mass killing and maimings, or just plain giving my Children's Money to the rich folk.

27. i understand that there is always a need here in this country
but we are the richest in the world and should be able to take care of the folks at home AND donate to the most devastating natural event in centuries. the fact that the gov't couldn't do much better than the catholic relief service of itself, speaks volumes.

Have you not been following the news? Congrats on being the first person I've seen here on DU who complains that we shouldn't help people in other countries after a horrific natural disaster because people here need it too. Have you ever been out of the country? Do you understand ANYTHING about foreign relations? Geez.

36. Two things:
First of all, it is a duplicate story. It has already been posted in LBN.

Second of all, the title of the thread should be the title of the actual news article. Instead, the poster editorialized the title.

37. What a frigging nerve!
Edited on Fri Dec-31-04 06:44 PM by HypnoToad
Powell encouraged nations to "reach deep" to make significant contributions. "The need is great and not just for immediate relief, but for long-term reconstruction, rehabilitation, family support, economic support that's going to be needed for these countries to get back up on their feet," he said after meeting with U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan.

Sheesh. They were doing that with us doing virtually nothing. So why the flip-flop?

None of this even begins to come across as genuine or altruistic, sorry.

And giving what had happened before this FLIP-FLOP, how will * supporters find a way to still like him?

* was scrooge first. The only reason why he's now trying to look like Mr Compassion is only because the world politely scolded him!
