Nearly 100 people from Sweden, Finland and Norway countries have been declared dead in the disaster, and more than 4,500 were still unaccounted for Saturday, the BBC reported.

The BBC said 60 of those killed were from Sweden, with 3,559 Swedes missing. Most of the victims were vacationing in Thailand when the tidal waves hit.

1. I just read on MSN that they were going to call off SAR missions
The organizations say that there is very little chance of survival after 7 days.

2. Well.
Communications are just being re-established everywhere. I'm not sure how far along they are in getting even communication lines back in service -- on remote islands, my guess is, not far at all.

Train tracks, roads and bridges, and electrical poles are down.

I hope some who have not been heard from are alive. I hope for health and survival of all affected by the tsunami.

4. yes, and particularly the less tech-savvy people
may have difficulty communicating. After a certain amout of time, however, I think chances we will hear from most of them will be next to nothing. Always hoping for those miracle reunions though.

3. They have 4 different groups:
Edited on Sun Jan-02-05 02:43 PM by KDLarsen
Found, Wanted, Missing & Dead.

The Wanted group includes all those who have either been confirmed alive during/immediately following the Tsunami, but has not been seen again - or who has not been seen on the day fo the Tsunami, ie. they're presumed to be alive.

The Missing group includes people who was seen in a potential deadly situation as the Tsunami struck (ie. they were caught in the water masses).

8. What's with the Wanted group?
How could they have been alive following the tsunami but nowhere to be found today? How horrible. Can you imagine what their loved ones are going through?

14. From my understanding..
.. they could have become injured & unable to let people know who they are, they could have become lost in the confusion etc. Quite a lot of things actually.

On the positive side of all of this, the total list of missing Danish citizens just dropped by ~300 after the police released the names.

6. This all has that sad familiar ring about it
like the feeling we had right after 9-11 when people were looking for relatives in the hospitals, putting up posters. I was struck by witnessing this on TV a few days ago, people milling around poster boards -- almost as if it is the first line of thinking in the human brain that has been overtaken by disaster and chaos: they aren't gone they are hurt and somewhere that we just can't reach them.

Or is there another 'terrorist cell' operating openly in the US?
