Senator Says Lifetime Terror Detentions 'Bad Idea'
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=7218051

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A reported U.S. plan to keep some suspected terrorists imprisoned for a lifetime even if the government lacks evidence to charge them in courts was swiftly condemned on Sunday as a "bad idea" by a leading Republican senator.

The Pentagon and the CIA have asked the White House to decide on a more permanent approach for those it was unwilling to set free or turn over to U.S. or foreign courts, the Washington Post said in a report that cited intelligence, defense and diplomatic officials.

Some detentions could potentially last a lifetime, the newspaper said.

Influential senators denounced the idea as probably unconstitutional.

"It's a bad idea. So we ought to get over it and we ought to have a very careful, constitutional look at this," Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said on "Fox News Sunday."

1. "A bad idea." Do ya think?
How about criminal, evil, unconstitutional, fascistic and totalitarian? IMO, "a bad idea" is just a bit of an understatement. The very fact that they would even consider doing such a thing should make everyone's blood run cold... but hardly anybody even blinks. The water us frogs are swimming in just got a few degrees hotter, yet we just keep paddling along...

We are so fucking screwed.

just a lil' ol' "bad idea" and not a criminal act, perpetrated by a bunch of Third Reich adoring fuckers. Good to know, Mr. Lugar.

3. Bad idea
Tut, tut. I'd rather you hadn't done that, Mr. President. And while we're at it, it's rather bad form to start a war for no damned reason. That is, if you don't mind my saying so.

4. Hitler too had a few "bad ideas" in his day. But never made any
mistakes, at least not any that could be answered in a pre-written question.

5. Think this is a "bad idea"? Then don't confirm Gonzales.
His "terror memos" are not an isolated aberration. There will be more and maybe even worse to come. I can't see him EVER saying, "Mr. President, I don't think you can do that -- it's against the law."

If Gonzales is confirmed, it's a tacit acceptance that consitutional law will be ignored when it is inconvenient.

7. not much was made by the new 'terror memos"!! Maybe it was the
holiday? i know the msm covered it ok--but they really went no where. It is almost as if people have just given up and accepted the fact the administration is corrupt and lying is normal part of being the President!!

6. This illustrates to what depths the former republic of the United
States of America has sunk. It is news that a handful of senators denounced a patently unconstitutional plan of the Bush Crime Family. The fact that such a plan is even being considered by the executive ought to produce a universal call for Bush's impeachment.
