Ex-Administration Officials Dismiss Iraq Tie To Al-Qaida

'Meaningful Connection' Between Groups Not Established

Before the war on Iraq, President George W. Bush accused Saddam Hussein of harboring top al-Qaida operatives.

Now two former Bush administration intelligence officials are dismissing those claims.

A former State Department intelligence official says intelligence agencies agreed there wasn't a "meaningful connection to al-Qaida" -- and told the White House and Congress.

Another former Bush administration intelligence official says there was no clear link between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaida and any connections were "episodic, not continuous."

Bush's Democratic rivals are criticizing him for making the CIA director his scapegoat.

They say Bush is responsible for his State of the Union address.

2. Another perfect example why democrats should bundle up ALL of the
lies and present them in a big package with a beautiful bow. Not just the Niger uranium story, but ALL of the lies.

The administration is trying to cover for Bush by saying "sixteen words out of a 5,500 word speech" like the rest of it wasn't garbage. Make people face the fact that it was ALL lies. Deliberate and premeditated.

5. true AC
The entire speech, all the claims......they were all LIES.

Not one fuc*ing WMD....not one. No atta-czech link....nothing.

aluminum tubes....total bullshit.....tons and tons...thousands of liters....all Bullshit

remember all the "we know where they are, we have defectors, but its classified, we cant endanger intel sources"......LIARS

Dems sure as hell better hold hearings, and they sure as hell better subpoena the OSP. Under oath.....ask them."what intel did you submit"...subpoena all documents, ask them "what did you base this intel on" ?

If they do this.......its all over for the neo-cons.

Remember Waxman sent letters to Bunker Dick about the Niger Uranium fraud 7 weeks ago....this has been in the works.

8. I disagree. They should not wrap it with a bow,
but with an American flag, for all that it's worth these days.
