Bush contributes $10,000 in personal funds for tsunami relief
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/news/a/2005/01/05/national1340EST0579.DTL

President Bush, who has pledged $350 million in U.S. aid to help victims of Asian countries ravaged by the tsunami, has contributed $10,000 from his personal funds to the relief effort, his spokesman said Wednesday.

Scott McClellan, White House press secretary, told reporters traveling with Bush to Illinois that the president -- himself a multimillionaire -- has written checks to several organizations listed on a Web site set up to direct Americans to various reputable charities collecting private contributions for tsunami relief. McClellan would not identify the organizations to which Bush contributed.

120. I don't know about this specific event...
but I found this when I was looking to see if you were correct. I was surprised to see that the highest ranking Blue State was NY at 26th on the generosity index and my own Massachusetts at 49th. I believe that these numbers are based on per capita charitable contributions claimed on income tax returns.

http://www.catalogueforphilanthropy.org/cfp/generosity_index/2004_Generosity_Index.xls

I found it as a link from this website http://barkingdingo.blogspot.com/2004_11_07_barkingdingo_archive.html

It offers a few theories on why this might be the case, but all in all, I'm a little disappointed to see the Blue States showed up so poorly.

When everybody sees how cheap the son of a bitch is, he'll up it to $30,000 then $50,000. Where the "thinking" would never end up as giving.

So after all the talk about thinking, he gave.

Now he will wait for the reaction to his donation before deciding whether he can finally drop the whole thing.

When a person seeks approval or the 'good will' of others, that's an act of greed and self-interest, not virtue. Our "look ma, no brains" Pretzeldent hasn't the slightest conception of virtue - he's the most corrupt, sociopathic piece of self-consumed, narcissistic human garbage I've ever seen. Detestible.

60. Publicity....
I hope JK doesn't make it public. I can't stand the fact that I have to keep hearing about Sandra Bullock. I wonder how many minutes passed after her donation before her publicist was on the phone. Probably on the phone before. When people seek publicity for their good deeds, their donations become bribes for public goodwill notariety.

Why did we have to hear about Bush? I wonder how many other politicians have donated but kept quiet about it. I hope many, but I kinda doubt it. Politicians seldom are generous except with other people's money.

Bush obviously could have given more, but my biggest problem with his gift is not the size of it but the noise of it.

seriously the legal status for illegal immigrant workers which goes against staunch GOP members. Now donating personal funds for tsumani victims, he's trying to win Dems over. The reason for the cattle pens called the free speech zones...lil' Georgie doesn't want anyone to dislike him. It's fairly simple. He'll keep trying, trust me. He's the bratty child who wants everyone to be his friend.

101. I do not "condemn" anyone who helps.
But I do believe he could do more, and my conscience is clear with that. This is not some senior citizen who is choosing between food, medicine and the rent/mortgage here. This is a multimillionaire AND the leader of one of the most generous countries on earth (individual citizen-wise). I do think he made a mistake in giving so little when he has been given so much.

Let's have some perspective here where Schumi gave 10 million out of his 25 million dollar annual salary he gets from Ferrari, while Bush gives a paltry 10 grand.

Ya know the one thing I liked about Ross Perot was the pie charts. Hold up the pie chart showing the portion 10,000 Bucks is compared to the combined Bush family fortune. Here's a clue kids. If the giving portion looks like a radius line then your one cheap mo'fo. Same goes for the Iraq v/s Humanitarian ratio. Learn to count America!!!

I bet they don't even notice that the money is out of the account.

I think the question is whether there is something he wouldn't be able to buy himself or his family because he gave that money. For most people, it means not going out to eat once or twice during the pay period, or stuff like that. Some sort of personal sacrifice to keep the family budget in line.

Bush has "pledged" to contribute $10,000 in personal funds. So far, it's just talk. "*" is that guy that will gladly sponsor your charitable walk-a-thon, but coincidentally is never home when its time to collect those pledges.
