For figure skating fans: Angela Nikodinov's mother dies in car crash

PORLTAND, Ore. - It is with deep regret that U.S. Figure Skating announces the death of Delores Nikodinov, the mother of ladies skater Angela Nikodinov

Angela and her family were in a car accident today at 9:19 a.m. in a cab on their way from the Portland International Airport to their hotel. In the vehicle were Angela, her father Nick, her mother Delores, her coach Igor Pashkevich and the cab driver. Delores Nikodinov was pronounced dead at the scene. Angela, Mr. Nikodinov and Igor and were transported to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Angela and her father were treated and released. Igor is listed in fair condition and will be kept overnight for observation.

We are extremely saddened by this tragedy and all of our support is with Angela and her family at this time. Our hearts go out to her and her father. The figure skating community is a close one, and we all grieve with the Nikodinov family.

Angela is really shaping up into a world class skater.

And she lost her coach too a few years ago. Poor Angela!

We always rooted for her, even though Dick Button was so snotty about her skating at first. How awful.

bad for her.

I've been following her since '95 Nationals. She's one of my favorites! What a horrible thing for her and her family!
