By DOUG SIMPSON, Associated Press Writer

HOUMA, La. - Six members of the Louisiana National Guard were killed last week in a single bomb blast in Iraq (news - web sites). They came from the same company and grew up in towns along the bayous of southeast Louisiana. Now they've come home — together — to a heartbroken state.

All were killed last week in a single bomb blast in Iraq. They came from the same company and grew up in towns along the bayous of southeast Louisiana.

<snip>

"They trained together, they fought together, they went to war together, they died together. The families wanted them to come home together," said Hunt Downer, assistant adjutant general in the National Guard.

Full media coverage was allowed, including photographers and television news crews — an exception to a Pentagon (news - web sites) edict generally banning media coverage of America's war dead as their remains arrive.

How sad! And yet dubya will hold hedonistic inauguration parties to celebrate the troops?

1. Two killed from Western Louisiana earlier this week too

The mother of one is quoted in the local paper as saying we need to get out of Iraq. Very very red part of the state.

Some are figuring it out.

Some are still cheerleading and saying they "died protecting our freedoms"....

:-(

7. Yep...that makes a lot of sense....
You have no idea how these 6 soldiers voted but you dance on their graves. BTW, all 6 are from Congressional District 3 which just voted Democratic by voting against the son of long time Republican incumbent Billy Tauzin.

But, I guess its a lot simpler to say Louisiana=Red-State=Bad.

I'm glad others on this board can handle more complex, nuanced thought.

8. You know nothing about that part of Louisiana.
Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 11:41 AM by Bridget Burke
But I've heard plenty about Orange County. And where were you before the election?

Greetings to your governor; let's hope the Constitution does not get amended. After President Nixon & President Reagan, we really don't need another Californian in the White House.

Edited to add: Did you see the coverage of their funerals? The folks from Louisiana defied the ban on showing flag-draped coffins. I'm sure some Californians have died--but you're following orders much better than the ornery Cajuns.

4. Los Angeles is much more dangerous than Iraq - right?
Wasn't that Brit Hume's line last year. If there was justice on this planet all the RW cheerleader pundits would be fighting and dying in Iraq right now.
