SACRAMENTO, Calif. Jan 14, 2005 — California's Secretary of State will testify before a legislative committee investigating his use of federal election funds, aides said.
Kevin Shelley met Thursday's deadline set to confirm his appearance before the Joint Legislative Audit Committee, removing the threat of a subpoena. He has agreed to testify on Feb. 3.
"He looks forward to participating," said Shelley spokeswoman Caren Daniels-Meade.
Following a state audit, Shelley's office has been battered by allegations of campaign finance improprieties and of mishandling millions of dollars sent to states to modernize voting.
