Iraq to Resume Oil Exports in 10 Days
http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,1280,-4736534,00.html

Sunday January 16, 2005 3:46 PM

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Almost a month after saboteurs shut down a northern Iraqi oil pipeline, the government said Sunday it should resume pumping crude from northern fields to an export terminal in southeastern Turkey by month's end.

A Dec. 18 explosion caused by saboteurs halted the flow of oil through the northern pipeline, which was carrying about 400,000 barrels a day before the attack.

``Repair work on the damaged export pipeline that carries crude oil from Kirkuk oil fields to the Turkish port of Ceyhan is expected to finish in 10 days time from now,'' the Oil Ministry statement said. ``Exports via the pipeline to Turkey's Ceyhan port are expected to resume immediately after completing repair work.''

The statement also said a damaged feeder pipeline that carries crude oil from Kirkuk oil fields to the Beiji refinery, in northern Iraq, has been repaired and has started resupplying the refinery with 300,000 barrels a day.

12. Interesting you should bring that up.....
Iraq has over 900 miles of pipeline.....all above ground. Who guards it? We're seriously undermanned in Iraq; there is no way we can guard the pipeline. How many times has the pipeline been bombed? 20 times? 2,000 times? I'd be curious to know the exact number.

I've read that the US has made agreements with different tribes to have "guard duty" over certain sections of the pipeline. Unfortunately, jealousy has occurred, and some tribal warfare has happened over the lucrative contracts.

They're fighting over who gets what part. Imagine that. Everything we do in Iraq is fucked up.

6. Who knows where the revenue is going?
I understand they're still able to pump some 2 million barrels a day.

7. So many questions...
--Where does the oil go?

--To whom is it sold?

--Who reaps the profits of the oil?

--Where do those oil profits go?

--Where is the money from the oil that has been pumped during the last 2 years?

10. So far, $20 billion in oil sales are "lost"
"The International Advisory and Monitoring Board report also said there were "important weaknesses" in the management by occupation officials of up to $20bn in Iraqi funds, mostly from oil sales."

17. Priority: all is well on the justification front--feed the press to keep
the Neo-Con constituents happy.

Even Howard Coble is ready to pull the troops out.

Let them eat oil...even if it is the fictious brand.
