Detectives from the Mid-Missouri Major Case Squad withdrew Sunday from investigating the homicide of Jeong Im, a retired research professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia, MU police Capt. Brian Weimer said today.

The squad, typically activated for five days, at MU’s request extended its involvement another four days after Im’s Jan. 7 murder.

Im, 72, was found dead of multiple stab wounds to the chest in the trunk of his burning white car on the third floor of the Maryland Avenue parking garage at MU.

Weimer said there are have been more than 185 leads to follow in the case and that University Police still has seven officers continuing investigation. He said the campus police have asked the Missouri State Highway Patrol to review the case file.
