Feinstein Endorses Kerry Presidential Bid

Feinstein, a Democrat, is California's senior senator and arguably the most popular politician in the voter-rich state. She is one of only two U.S. senators to endorse Kerry's presidential bid so far _ the other being his Massachusetts colleague, Ted Kennedy.

In a statement, Feinstein said she was supporting Kerry for his leadership on a number of issues, including health care, tax policy and environmental concerns. She also singled out his support of gun control and particularly a ban on assault weapons, which Feinstein authored and is trying to extend over Republican objections.

"The assault weapon ban will expire next year," Feinstein wrote. "We need a president who will actively urge Congress to extend it, and John Kerry will do just that."

I knew you could.

...both are always looking out for their political behinds, and never stand up for anything until it is politically safe and expedient to do so!

But I think Feinstein's endorsement is the kiss of death to Kerry. We don't need another Republican lite loyalist. I just never have trusted Feinstein...or anyone she gushes over.

Before the filing deadline for recall candidates, the media were polling all kinds of scenarios and all kinds of folks who hadn't decided whether to run or not, and DiFi consistantly polled as the most popular politician in the state. She was the only state Dem who polled well enough to beat Ahnold, and beat him strongly too. Not only that, mentioning her potential candidacy increased the number of people who supported the recall. She could have been Governor in a walk, if she had wanted to be.

I'm not saying that her endorsement's going to land CA in Kerry's lap, but DiFi's endorcement certainly won't be "the kiss of death".

She was only in the 20's.

She doesn't get anyone excited--she plays it too safe. She'll get re-elected to the Senate again, because she basically is in line with people believe. However, she won't rally people around her that is needed to blow steam into what appears to be a dying campaign.

Kerry is finished. His vote on the Iraq war was the political version of leprosy. Now that Wesley Clark is entering the race, there is no need for a prowar war hero when an antiwar war hero will do better!
