Mexico Angered by U.S. Criticism of Drug War
By Alistair Bell

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexico warned the United States not to interfere in its affairs on Thursday after criticism by Washington over lawlessness along the border.

Interior Minister Santiago Creel rejected charges by the U.S. ambassador in Mexico that Mexican police were losing the battle against crime in the area, and Foreign Minister Ernesto Derbez discussed the matter with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites) by telephone, government sources said.

Creel said the fight against organized crime on Mexican soil was a matter only for President Vicente Fox (news - web sites)'s government, which launched an assault last week against gangs taking orders from jailed drug lords.

"Here, Mexicans are in charge. We have friendly and neighborly relations and we are partners in a free trade agreement but that's it," Creel told the Televisa television network.

6. I'm concerned it is going to come back to hurt us, the citizens, not Bush.
He will lead a charmed life in his ivory tower no matter what retaliation strikes us.

10. Before you get too worked up here, read up on what has been
happening along the border. Several Americans have disappeared and no one yet knows why. They think it's drug related, but they're not sure.

4. We need to end the Drug War....
It by far is the worst war the US government has commited against its citizens and the world.

The War in Iraq pales in comparison to the lives on ruined in almost every continent to the war on drugs.

9. Yes absolutely
The drugs war is a political war against the first amendment and
the pursuit of happiness... and a war to disenfranchise liberal voters
using false felony charges for nonviolent trading in contraban.

The war is a crime, and the people that wage it are war criminals.
We should bring charges.

5. So Rice is off to a diplomatic start?
...Foreign Minister Ernesto Derbez discussed the matter with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice by telephone...

We certainly don't have a charming personality. Someone ought to read that book, How to Win Friends and Influence Enemies. Our gunboat diplomacy isn't working so well.

8. the irony is...
the only reason there is a drug "problem" is because of the astronomic demand from the U.S.. Without this US drug market there would be no significant drug trade.
