CIA Director George Tenet intervened when President Bush was about to claim that Iraq tried to buy nuclear weapons material in Africa, says National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice.
The reference was taken out of the speech – which Mr. Bush delivered last October.

On Friday, Tenet said the claim "did not rise to the level of certainty which should be required for presidential speeches, and CIA should have ensured that it was removed." He added, "It was a mistake." A CIA investigation discounted the claim in February 2002.

Rice said in a broadcast interview Sunday the claim “was indeed accurate. The British government did say that. Not only was the statement accurate, there were statements of this kind in the National Intelligence Estimate,” a classified document compiled by U.S. agencies, she said. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld made similar remarks to reporters on Sunday

2. CIA tells the Commander in Chief what to say?
Since when? Did Tenet write the speech? If not who did? Now they claim it was real info cause the British say it was? I think this is a smoke screen for the coming LIHOP report which is suppose to be explosive.

6. Thank you, study_war_no_more!
"CIA tells the Commander in Chief what to say?"

That's what I say!!! Is it normal procedure forthe CIA to read over SOTUS addresses as if it were term papers? How come this has never been heard of before?

5. Graham & Kerry Speak Out...
Graham, the senior Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said during a broadcast interview that Vice President Dick Cheney personally had asked for a CIA review of the Iraq-Niger link.

That he got no response, Graham said, "I will have to say that stretches belief ... The idea that he did not get a report back, and that that report did not contain the recommendations of Ambassador Wilson? I think I've got some swampland to sell to you."

Another Democratic hopeful, Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, disputed in a televised interview Bush's contention that the episode is finished.

Instead, Kerry said, there remain "enormous questions still about the overall intelligence given to the Congress, the quality of that intelligence and even about the politics that entered into the judgment of taking that famous phrase out of one speech but leaving it in another."

8. She doesn't do well under a barrage of questions, so she drones on-and-on
I have to pinch myself everytime she answered a question this morning. My wife and I think that she has developed this overly long answer technique as a self-defense mechanism to "run out the clock" on additional questions.
