Kennedy Bashes Bush for 'Crimes Against Nature'

By Scott Condon
January 28, 2005

.....Kennedy believes most Americans, Republicans as well as Democrats, are environmentalists who support strong laws that protect nature. But the majority of voters in November selected a president that Kennedy considers the single biggest hazard to the environment.

If the American people are so firmly behind the environment and environmental protections, why did they re-elect Bush?......

He placed a big share of the blame for Bush's re-election squarely on the shoulders of the media.

It's more common to hear the media accused of a "liberal bias," but Kennedy claimed conservative influences have prevailed since 1987 when a policy called the Fairness Doctrine was abolished. The Reagan administration gutted requirements that forced television stations to provide multiple sides in political coverage and required them to cover topics of community interest. Reagan also eased laws that prohibited concentration of media ownership as a favor to conservative broadcasters, Kennedy said........

3. How nice it would be to have a Kennedy to run for Prez in 08
Unfortunately I think the BFEE and their +40 year record of dead opponents probably has the Kennedy clan right where they want 'em.

:(

8. Most Repukes...
attack the environment. Our newly elected Gov. in MO vowed to do so on his first day of office all under the guise of creating more jobs by deregulating pollution laws on corporations?

9. A new revised Fairness Doctrine for talk radio is long overdue

and it is THE thing most feared by RW hosts. IMHO there is no more important issue because without a well informed electorate we will continue to lose elections. The absence of the FD is the sole reason Limbaugh has been able to thrive.

10. The FCC attempted in 2003
to ease media-ownership rules even further, but there was such a public outcry about this that I'm convinced (though I could be wrong) that was what led to the overturning of those new rules by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in Philadelphia.

Too much of the media is already controlled by only four or five large corporations, and of course, those are quite conservative corporations that care more about profits than news.

And yes, we also need the Fairness Doctrine again.
