Bush getting set for State of the Union speech focused on Social Security

WHITE HOUSE President Bush is getting ready for a State of the Union speech this week that kicks off his second-term drive to revamp Social Security.

The president told fellow Republicans last week he's doing "verbal jumping jacks" to warm up for the Wednesday night speech.

And in a series of interviews, he made clear Social Security will be its centerpiece.

(snip)

After the speech, Bush plans a five-state blitz to discuss his plans. He acknowledges even Republicans are leery but says he's taking his case to the country.

2. There's a little old lady here in Florida
I read in the news someone tried to snatch her purse and she beat the crap out of that purse snatcher.

They better watch out for her.

3. "verbal jumping jacks"
Edited on Sun Jan-30-05 04:45 AM by twaddler01
that made me laugh...ROFL.

Not that I like Bush at all, but I LOVE his speeches. They are rather entertaining. The cheesy accent, the mispronunciation of words, and of course the indirect answers he always gives (he takes a while to find words and most sentences never make sense in the end). Oh yeah, and DO NOT forget the expressions. After seeing the speech with Kerry a few months ago, I cannot get over how funny he looks. He might look better like this though:

Sorry, but to me, Bushes speeches are the only "good" things I see coming from this president.

:bounce:

9. I agree. If what he was doing wasn't so tragic, Chimp would be great.
He's a laugh a minute guy, his antics are true comedic fodder. When you realize this fucking clown is technically the most "Powerful Man in the World" it sobers you right up.

15. Don't forget the strange emphasis on certain words.
That's a quirk his father also has -- a careful pronunciation of particular words and a marked emphasis on them, without any discernible reason for such emphasis. It comes off as very awkward.

And with Bush fils, there's also the smirk and the cockiness. He's become even more cocky since November. Is God planning something to wipe the smirk off Bush's face? Pride goeth before a fall and all that...

6. I have an advanced copy of his SOTU speech!
"Mr. Speaker, Vice President Cheney, members of Congress, distinguished citizens and fellow citizens, every year, by law and by custom, we meet here to consider the state of the union. This year, we gather in this chamber deeply aware of decisive days that lie ahead.

To protect our country, we must reorganize our government and destroy Social Security.

*snip*

Tonight, I am instructing the leaders of the FBI, the CIA, the Homeland Security and the Department of Defense to develop a Terrorist Threat Integration Center, to merge and analyze all Social Security threat information in a single location.

Our government must have the very best information possible, and we will use it to make sure the right people are in the right places to protect our citizens against Social Security.

Our war against Social Security is a contest of will in which perseverance is power. In the ruins of two towers, at the western wall of the Pentagon, on a field in Pennsylvania, this nation made a pledge, and we renew that pledge tonight: Whatever the duration of this struggle and whatever the difficulties, we will not permit the triumph of Social Security in the affairs of men; free people will set the course of history.

Today, the gravest danger in the war on Social Security, the gravest danger facing America and the world, is outlaw regimes that seek and possess Social Security.

This threat is new; America's duty is familiar.

*snip*

The British government has learned that Social Security has recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa.

Before September the 11th, many in the world believed that Social Security could be contained. But Social Security and its shadowy terrorist networks are not easily contained."

10. State of the Union Alert!
in addition to "they hates our social security..." blather

Keep your eyes and ears open for Bush's comment on the Iraqi Elections! I predict he will say something to the effect of "The real winners in the election are the Iraqi people...."

12. Why stop at Social Security Insurance?
We could convert our car insurance to investment accounts too. Then, when you have an accident, you will have enough cash to handle it.
And health insurance! Why should we have any kind of insurance? Take the money we spend as premiums, invest it, then when disaster strikes, we'll all be millionaires and can just pay up.

Jeez, they probably really want to do that, don't they?

13. They're actually "verbal jumping-jackOFFS"
Wasn't the Big Idea of last year's speech that we were going to be sending people to Mars?

We got any people on Mars yet?

On the way there?

Even one Shuttle flight since his lofty, inspiring speech with all those glorious goals?

Who give a red rat's ass what he says? It's all just wind, because nobody (not even Republicans) cares about his bloviations.

16. I am looking forward to the speech
1. This will be to Bush what "Hillary's Health Care Proposal" was to Clinton --- and to Bush's strongest backers (just like the Health Insurance mafia targeted PA's Harris Wofford). We have the opportunity to make this Bush's "Bridge Too Far."

2. We may not have ignominious Karen Ignagni on our side -- but we have Paul Krugman and Al Franken.

I am waiting for the Al Franken produced and directed clone of Karen Ignagni's infamous "Harry and Louise" infomercials.

    Al - you rock :yourock:

3. We really have to go at this Gingrich - Rove style ----> name calling, shouting, sound bites, two word catch phrases -- none of our typical Progressive leftie over intellectualizing.
