House Republicans Skeptical on Soc. Sec.
Think this is real or a ploy to get our guard down?

I think it's real since 1) names are quoted here and 2) these people have to stand for re-ealection whil the dim son doesn't.

Stil the White House and the RNC will pressure these people. As such we will have to remain vigilant,

By LAURA MECKLER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - President Bush's Social Security proposals stirred fresh political worries Thursday among Republicans and brought calls from some lawmakers to abandon the president's central idea: letting people divert part of their payroll taxes to private retirement accounts.

"I've talked to some of my colleagues and they're panic-stricken," said Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., who said he welcomes a serious debate over the sweeping changes Bush outlined in his State of the Union address Wednesday.

"Politically speaking, right now it's probably not doable," said Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., citing lack of Democratic support.

Two House Republicans with years of expertise on Social Security offered an alternate plan, saying the Bush proposal is too politically risky. They suggested bolstering the program with money from general revenues rather than the payroll tax.

4. Why aren't the Dems coming up with a plan ?
Edited on Thu Feb-03-05 10:15 PM by Mountainman
Dems can tell the truth about social security because they don't have any third parties wanting Dems to give them a piece of the action.

Talk about the surplus Clinton left and how it was given away in Bush's tax cuts. Talk about what we can do to help out or children who will retire after 2042 when there will again be problems.

Tell people how we can get the money borrowed by the government back into a Social Security lock box.

Talk about ending this war and using the money for the people of this country and their future.

And the beat goes on.

5. Haha
Republicans...political worries, panic-stricken, politically speaking not doable, politically risky,

Gee where is the concern for the American citizen. They more worry about their political future then the well being of the US citizen.
