Bush plans personal appeal on Iraq
Sept. 19 — With little chance that a resolution on Iraq will be approved quickly, President Bush is pinning his hopes on face-to-face diplomacy — including meetings with two of the most vocal critics of his policy in Iraq, French President Jacques Chirac and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder — during his visit to the United Nations in New York on Tuesday.

BUSH WILL MEET Chirac on Tuesday, either before or after his address to the United Nations, and will follow up with a meeting with Schroeder on Wednesday, spokesmen for the French and German governments said.

The meetings will follow a three-way summit in Berlin at the weekend where Schroeder and Chirac are due to meet British Prime Minister Tony Blair, one of the United States’ staunchest allies, to try to narrow their differences over Iraq’s future.

White House officials had hoped to have the resolution ready in time for Bush’s U.N. appearance, but now have resigned themselves to pursuing it in New York....

1. First, he has to get down on his knees
and kiss the hems of their suits....There is no way the UN will listen to that arrogant little chimp otherwise..
No wonder his face has been breaking out in blotches lately..his arrogance is his undoing, and the poison that runs through his veins and arteries is starting to show ..
Better BEG, Chimpy....thats all you have left, you lying sack of shite.

11. He'll do the same thing
he did with Blair.

Remember, he told Blair that the UN would play a "vital" role in the rebuilding of Iraq AFTER the war?

The word is obfuscation

He'll tell France and Germany that they will play a "vital" role if they send troops. But I think Chirac and Schroeder are too sophisticated diplomatically to trust the little worm without details and specifics.

First I see the item about the 15-hundred pound fossilized rat (AND all the replies, including the Richard Gere reference) and NOW THIS.

When I finally recover from having fallen off my chair laughing, and wipe off my screen of the spit-take I just emitted, and that ache in my sides subsides, and I blow my nose a few times (when I laugh or cry too hard, my sinuses swell up and I CAN'T F-ING BREATHE!!!) I'm going to save this picture in my personal files. Hell, I'll probably print one out and pin it up on my office wall just to stay giggly.

Sometimes it pays to have to stay home with the kids on a Friday night...

Problem is he'll go right out to the press and say something like "We've demanded that our allies step up to the plate and contribute to the war on terra." thereby, once again, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

He united France and Germany. Nobody's done that since Charlemagne. Napolean tried. Hitler tried. Bush succeeded.

Even if Bush gives both Chirac and Schroeder a Lewinsky--they ain't falling for it.

France and Germany are already in discussion to have an all-EU military force. No more NATO! They share the same currency (Euros) and share a border. The French speak German and the Germans speak French.

"We as a people must stand united, banding together to tear this nation in two," Bush said. "Much work lies ahead of us: The gap between the rich and the poor may be wide, be there's much more widening left to do. We must squander our nation's hard-won budget surplus on tax breaks for the wealthiest 15 percent. And, on the foreign front, we must find an enemy and defeat it."

Bush aides meet on punishing
France for Iraq war stance

Posted: 6:28 AM (Manila Time) | Apr. 23, 2003

WASHINGTON -- Senior aides to US President George W. Bush met this week to consider ways to punish France for its opposition to the war on Iraq, including sidelining Paris at NATO and limiting its participation in transatlantic forums, officials said Tuesday.

Participants in the meeting, held Monday at the White House after a similar gathering last week was postponed, did not arrive at any decisions but are expected to gather again, possibly next week, in an effort to reach consensus, the officials said.

The officials, speaking to Agence France-Presse on condition of anonymity, said Vice President Dick Cheney's office had been particularly vocal in pressing for some kind of punitive measures to be taken against France.

"They are trying to find ways to create alternative mechanisms for dealing with the French, or rather without them, and not just at NATO, but more broadly," one senior official said.

Still Angry Over War, Pentagon Limits Contacts With France

By Karen DeYoung and Vernon Loeb
Washington Post Staff Writers
Thursday, May 22, 2003; Page A29

Two weeks ago, the Pentagon called the French Embassy's military attaché here to say that France had been disinvited from participation in a long-scheduled Air Force exercise, called Red Flag, to be held next year in Nevada.

Just two weeks before, France had been informed that the Defense Department would limit its participation in next month's Paris Air Show. No generals would attend, and there would be none of the U.S. aircraft demonstrations for which the show is famous. All planes flown over from the United States would stay on the ground during the exhibition.

Rumsfeld seeks to punish France for its stance
By JONATHAN S. LANDAY
Knight Ridder Newspapers

WASHINGTON - While President Bush wants to mend fences with France over its opposition to the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld is not so forgiving.

In the latest in a series of Pentagon blasts at France, Rumsfeld has prevailed on U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. John C. Jumper not to invite his French counterpart, Gen. Richard Wolsztynski, to a prestigious September conference of air force commanders from around the world.

<snip>

Rumsfeld's actions run counter to Bush's decision, affirmed by his meeting June 2 in Evian, France, with French President Jacques Chirac, to try to put behind the two countries the damage done to U.S.-French ties by the dispute over Iraq.

<snip>

"Rumsfeld is running a foreign policy of his own," said Simon Serfaty, an expert on U.S.-European relations at the Center for Strategic and International Relations, a Washington policy institute. "The State Department and the White House have to some extent put France on probation, and Rumsfeld has not."

52. The three D's of Bush diplomacy. BusinessWeek magazine.
The High Price of Bad Diplomacy
. . .

But the seeds of the current diplomatic disaster were planted in the first year of the Bush Administration, well before September 11. That's when Washington defined its foreign policy, which has come to be seen as the three "D's" -- disdain, disregard, and disrespect for treaties, allies, and friends.

Man jailed for Bush remark

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A man who made a remark about a "burning Bush" during the president's March 2001 trip to Sioux Falls was sentenced Friday to 37 months in prison.

Richard Humphreys of Portland, Ore., was convicted in September of threatening to kill or harm the president and said he plans to appeal. He has said the comment was a prophecy protected under his right to free speech.

Humphreys said he got into a barroom discussion in nearby Watertown with a truck driver. A bartender who overheard the conversation realized the president was to visit Sioux Falls the next day and told police Humphreys talked about a "burning Bush" and the possibility of someone pouring a flammable liquid on Bush and lighting it.

"I said God might speak to the world through a burning Bush," Humphreys testified during his trial. "I had said that before and I thought it was funny."

With little chance that a resolution on Iraq will be approved quickly, President Bush is pinning his hopes on face-to-face diplomacy

From Top Gun:

"The defense department regrets to inform you that your sons are dead because they were stupid."
