Democrats See Nowhere to Go but Up

President Bush has his second term. Republicans are firmly in control of the House and the Senate. It's no wonder the oft-repeated adjective for Democrats is "dispirited."

Still, Democrat Lonnie Platt of Georgia managed to find a silver lining. "We only have one way to go, and that's up," Platt said.

The Democratic National Committee opened its two-day annual winter meeting Friday with rallying words from two potential 2008 presidential candidates — former vice presidential nominee John Edwards and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson — and the Democratic leaders in Congress.

Part of the pep talk focused on Bush's proposals to partially privatize Social Security and his fiscal 2006 budget blueprint, and using Democratic counterattacks to energize the rank-and-file.

1. Well, it's about bloody time.
Those fools at the top have done nothing but lose every election they've been involved in by taking working class economic issues off the table.

Maybe the near destruction of the party was what we needed to get rid of them.

9. I'll second that..........

Dean will get everybody rallied together, and the money will flow like the smoothest Oatmeal Stout.. however the senate can be ours in 2006, and that is the first victory that should be focused on. But without unity RIGHT NOW behind the seats that are up for re-election the senate and the House will stay in Rep control. Dean will have his shit together, we better also.

Speculating on who will, or should or could run for President in 08 takes to much energy off the 06 election. A democratic senate along with the 08 WH should be goal.

2. I really love John Edwards, good looking and smart to boot
great presence in the Democratic party for sure. He does seem more in touch with the working class then most of the rest as well.

4. when we've sucked so bad...
I guess anything's better...but we could have done better in these last years...the first years of Bush's regime...we were timid, afraid, and too reluctant to hold him to task...then (at least I think) we botched the presidency by going with Kerry...who himself was weak to respond to attacks...

But...that's the past...so I hope Dean can turn us around.

6. If there's nowhere else to go but up, then that implies...
implies that we've hit the bottom. Frankly, I don't think we're that low yet. We could go even lower. If we ever want to gain opinion in the eyes of the populace again, we must stop acting like the baseness of those in control at the moment. And we must never give up. Never!

7. The Dems were defeated 2 times in a row by a complete IDIOT!
They really should be ashamed and apologize to the people rather than make excuses.

11. We Dems were not Defeated, We were Robbed!
Plainly put. And no longer dispirited, rather lifting upwards and united like never before. You remember, just like our states once were.

With Dr. Howard Dean in charge of the DNC, we're uniting more and more each day, and becoming stronger like never before!
