Iraqi group claiming links to al-Qaida says it is behind attacks on U.S.
forces

Do we think this is US propaganda? Very interesting...trying to link Iraq and Al Qaida once again.

<snip>
A group claiming to be an Iraqi branch of al-Qaida said it and not Saddam Hussein is behind recent attacks on U.S. forces, according to a videotape aired on an Arab TV station Sunday. The tape couldn't be immediately verified.

2. One positive on this story..
they disclaim Hussein. Tough to say there are links between Hussein and Al-Qaeda when they explicitly disavow him.

5. And It's Based In Falluja (Southern Iraq)
Just like that Ansar al-Islam camp in Northern Iraq, how could Saddam maintain control of the group when its in a No-Fly Zone?

Don't pay any attention, it's just white noise.

8. Why is it Al-Qaida is always doing things that support the Bush administra
It's almost like clock work. Really, whoever is doing PR for the Al-Qaida should understand that everything they do seems to play into the Republican's political agenda.

If I didn't know better, I might think that Al-Qaida has a direct line into the RNC.

9. Not good news for Admin claims about Saddam and Iraq.
If they claim they are from al-Qaida and not with Saddam; you could make the argument by overthrowing the Iraqi government Bush and Co. have made Americans more vulnerable to attack. Saddam would not like to provoke the Americans to attack so he would have kept an eye on them. At the very least not let them attack Americans. Saddam had a government and rule of country to lose, these terrorist from al-Qaida have nothing to lose. By sending in troops to overthrow Saddam Bush has made the troops and possibly other Americans more vulnerable to an attack from al-Qaida.

10. Not so sure what that's supposed to prove...
The Al Qaeda cells dispersed when we attacked Afghanistan. They had to go somewhere else or die.

11. It could be true
Al-Qaida could have linked up with some Iraqi nationalists and will aid in the resistance.

The junta will try to make this out to mean that al-Qaida and Saddam are allied. It means nothing of the sort.

12. This contradicts what Rumsfeld has been saying about regime
supporters, Saddam Hussein loyalists being the attackers.

So, if this is true, why doesn't Rumsfeld know what is going on? If they admit that the attackers are Al Qaeda, why was Rumsfeld repeatedly telling us these were Ba'athist Saddam Hussein supporters attacking? Did he not know what he was talking about? or was he lying to us?

They may want to change the story, but it doesn't work well.
