No corruption charge for Sharon

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon will not be indicted in a long-running corruption scandal, officials say.

But Mr Sharon's son Omri will face charges over the illegal funding of a 1999 primary election campaign.

Attorney General Menachem Mazuz will reportedly ask the Knesset to lift Omri Sharon's parliamentary immunity.

Mr Mazuz has decided not to charge Sharon adviser Dov Weisglass, who had also been a subject of the three-year investigation into the scandal.

Sharon and Bush have one thing in common - a deluded populace that has long stopped caring about things such as morality and justice in favor of radical "security" measures. They are each propped up by the delirious and slim majority.

Omri Sharon, 40, who is now a member of parliament, is suspected of being involved in setting up the shell companies. The justice ministry said in a statement that Omri Sharon would be charged with failing to keep proper accounts, accepting illegal contributions and other offences.

The attorney general, Meni Mazuz, is now expected to ask the Knesset to remove Omri Sharon's parliamentary immunity from prosecution.

The justice ministry statement said: "Charges will be brought against Knesset member Omri Sharon ... the attorney general decided to close the file in all matters in this case pertaining to prime minister Ariel Sharon on grounds of insufficient evidence."

In a separate case, last year Mr Mazuz decided not to indict Ariel Sharon on charges of taking bribes from an Israeli businessman.
