Bush Economic Report Pushes Free Trade
WASHINGTON - Contending that Americans benefit from free trade, President Bush (news - web sites) said Thursday he would keep pursuing liberalization agreements around the world, even as critics say his policies have resulted in record trade deficits and millions of lost jobs.

Bush's pledge came in his annual economic report to Congress, a 438-page document that argued that his economic policies, ranging from making his first-term tax cuts permanent to overhauling Social Security (news - web sites), will lead to greater prosperity.

"I believe that Americans benefit from open markets and free and fair trade and I am working to open up markets around the world and make sure that the playing field is level for our workers, farmers, manufacturers and other job creators," Bush said in his message to Congress.

The administration devoted an entire chapter to extolling the benefits of free trade and seeking to answer critics who contend the country's soaring trade deficits, which last year hit a record of $617.7 billion, were costing millions of jobs.

4. should be
"I believe that these trade agreements further our efforts to
reduce to rubble the middle class and the US as a nation state
and continue to give our friends and elite new world order pals
even more power and ability to exploit the masses".

5. Will he now change the law to allow groups to negotiate with pharmaceutica
corporations? I think not.

Only the people have to adjust to free trade with no help. Corporations can avoid 'free trade' and the 'competition' inherent in that.

I prefer Ted Kennedy's "Third Way". Where you go for trade because it is the Liberal thing to do and will reduce poverty all over the world and make for a middle class 40 times bigger than now on the planet ... but you do it by focusing on helping and teaching your people.

The George Bush way is to make sure big Pharmaceuticals don't have to face competition from drug companies in Canada or anywhere else.

What malarkey!
