A summit meeting in Berlin between the leaders of Great Britain, France and Germany has failed to secure agreement on when Iraqis should resume control over their own administration.
British Prime Minister Tony Blair met the two strongest European critics of the war, French President Jacques Chirac and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.
They are insisting the United Nations be at the centre of Iraq's post war rebuilding, and also want a faster handover of authority from the US military to Iraqis, with Mr Chirac saying it should happen "within a few months".
Mr Blair agreed that power should be handed over "as quickly as possible" but like US president George W Bush, he does not want to be committed to dates and deadlines he sees as unreasonable.
