America would back Israel attack on Iran (The Telegraph)
America would back Israel attack on Iran

By Francis Harris in Washington
(Filed: 18/02/2005)

President George W Bush added a new twist to the international tension over Iran's nuclear programme last night by pledging to support Israel if it tries to destroy the Islamic regime's capacity to make an atomic bomb.

...

"Clearly, if I was the leader of Israel and I'd listened to some of the statements by the Iranian ayatollahs that regarded the security of my country, I'd be concerned about Iran having a nuclear weapon as well. And in that Israel is our ally, and in that we've made a very strong commitment to support Israel, we will support Israel if her security is threatened."

His comments appeared to be a departure from the administration's line that there are no plans to attack at present and that Washington backs European diplomatic efforts. The remarks may have reflected Mr Bush's personal thinking on an issue causing deep concern in Washington.

...

A senior Russian nuclear official said he would go to Iran next week to sign a protocol agreeing the return of spent nuclear fuel, the last remaining obstacle to Bushehr's functioning. This will allow deliveries of Russian nuclear fuel.

2. Yes...now that it's hit the wires it's top news
On the eve of Bush's "fence-mending" jihad, you have to wonder if the dignitaries about to receive him are trying to figure a way to cancel the invitations.

4. this is what I've been saying....
It won't be just us going into Iran, we don't have the strength, but Israel has a very large army. Only question is, will we attack first, and they back us up, or will they attack Iran first?

6. Israel will collapse. Masada
if it tries another war.
The Israelis are NOT enmoured of Ariel Sharon nor his Likudniks and there is much dissention in the ranks.
SERUV!!

8. the fundies would wet themselves:
restored Israel vs. the Kings of the East and Gog and Magog.
Of course, Revelations was a little off on this one--Gog and Magog seem to be fighting AGAINST the Beast...

9. We would be in trouble. We don't have any Iranian cannon fodder.
Russia helps Iran, then Syria takes over Iraq. The U.S. would be in deep crap.

Does Israelians citizen have interrest in bombing Iran ?

We must not forget that US/Israelian relationship is based on commun interrests, who could diverge with time.

11. Israel is America's PNAC co-conspirator
Has it occurred to anyone what will happen when Iran retaliates with its missiles? Think of the escalation! Iranian missiles rain on Israel and on US forces in the Gulf, Israel responds in kind. The little shitty war that Bush started, and that Israel dipped its wick in, will expand in ways that will make the First World War look tame by comparison.
