Rice, Rumsfeld Defend Use of British Finding
<snip>

On Friday, CIA Director George J. Tenet took responsibility for
not seeking removal from the president's January address of the
16-word sentence: "The British government has learned that
Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of
uranium from Africa." Tenet's statement came just hours after
Bush had appeared to blame the CIA, which the president said
had cleared his remarks.

Rumsfeld, appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press," said that it was
"technically correct, what the president said, that the government] did say that and still says that." But the defense
secretary added that Bush and Tenet now believe "referencing
another country's intelligence as opposed to your own" was
probably the wrong thing to do in a speech as important as the
State of the Union.

Rice and Rumsfeld also described the political storm the
statement caused in Washington as overblown.

"End of story," Rumsfeld said on ABC's "This Week."

1. No, not 'end of story' Rummy...
This is just where the story starts to get good. Please do stick around for the end.

2. Ridiculous. If CIA believed the British, Bush could...
... obviously have cited the CIA. The CIA would simply check out the intel, and approve it. That would make it CIA intel.

But that's not what happened is it?

3. This is a really desperate tactic... They know they are in deep trouble!
We all have to make sure they don't get away with it though. So let's get this story straight:

The Bush cabal have changed their defense to "It wasn't us that lied, it was the British!"

Don't let them fool you into thinking, as some people seem to be, that the story that Iraq tried to buy Uranium from Niger is actually true. That is NOT what they are saying. They are saying that the sentence "The British told us that Iraq tried to buy Uranium from Niger" is true because, they say, the British did actually tell them that, even though it was a lie. In other words they are not denying it was a lie, they a merely shifting the blame for the lie from the US to Britian.

I suggest that people start writing to their papers demanding that the British be punished for tricking Bush into going to war. Or if you want to be less subtle, demanding that Bush resign because he is too easily manipulated and fell for an obvious lie concocted by the British.

Enough letters like that should stop the Bush cabal from pursing this tactic for too long.

5. If the finding was correct . . .
Then why was the reference excised from a speech in October 2002? And why didn't Colin Powell use such devastating evidence in his Prevaricating Powerpoint Presentation to the UN just 10 days later?

End of story? Dream on, you corrupt hyenas.
