Sen. Clinton Says Iraq Insurgents Failing
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton said Saturday a string of attacks killing more than 50 Iraqis in two days were failed attempts to sow sectarian strife and destabilized the country.

Both Clinton and McCain have been strident critics of the Pentagon's planning and management of the war in Iraq. But Clinton said Saturday that Sunni Muslim insurgents were failing in their efforts to destabilize Iraq through sectarian violence.

Clinton said insurgents had also failed to disrupt Iraq's landmark Jan. 30 elections, won by the Shiite clergy-backed ticket. The United Iraqi Alliance won 140 seats in the 275-seat National Assembly.

"Not one polling place was shut down or overrun and the fact that you have these suicide bombers now, wreaking such hatred and violence while people pray, is to me, an indication of their failure," she said.

1. Well, if killing innocent people is failing, than what is succeeding?

2. Civil war.
Can't get a good old fashioned jihad worked up if it's just a bunch of Sunnis splattering the infidels' mosques with Sunni and Shi'a blood.

You need to get the Shi'a to reciprocate. *Then* maybe they can get some serious recruitment in Jordan, Syria, Sa'udi Arabia, Egypt, Yemen ... hell, even some of the Pakistani "college students for shari'a and obscurantism" might make it to Iraq.

3. Shia Don't need a civil war--they're going to take over anyway
It's the Sunni who need a civil war, and Bush is just the fool to help them.

4. You'll find that many political leaders worldwide are cheerleading on
behalf of the Iraqi people. Death and destruction are to be condemned.

8. You and I can admit the truth that we are losing (lost) in Iraq
I am not so sure a politician can admit to that with out being accused of giving aid and comfort to the enemy. The only way out of this morass is going to be with some kind of crapolla "peace with honor" scenario where we don't admit defeat. I think saying we are losing to the Iraqis would be political suicide at this point for any politician. Now, if they start up the draft all bet are off. Thats when I become militant.

18. Byrd, Kennedy, Kucinich are still there...
they don't have to say we're 'losing' to make it clear how costly and off track this war is... to say we are 'winning' is nutts and to forget that this war is illegal is DANGEROUS fr us all.

our leaders need to OPPOSE the direction of this neoCON rampage and point to another way.

anything less is neoCON lite and a losing strategy, imo.

peace

29. I think leesa, that most politicians and people too for that matter...
...try to rationalize away the truth in the noble yet misguided hope that it will in some way ease the suffering of those who have been terribly wounded and for the families of those killed.

And then on the other hand it might just be the oil?

16. Hillary is quite a prowar PPI/PNAC advocate
and there are those that are now telling us that the 2008 nomination is hers, end of debate. Well, I don't think that Hillary stands a prayer in 2008 if she is going to run by endorsing Bush's wars in Iraq, Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba, and what have you.

... going to talk about policy.

Hillary is saying this bullshit about "insurgent" desperation.

Kerry supports this clusterfuck.

Is there ANY politician... D or R... who is publicly against this war?

24. I'm pretty sure the "I see light at the end of the tunnel" quote can be...
...attributed to Walt W. Rostow, National Security Adviser, Dec. 1967. Walt wasn't considered to be very much of a visionary.

30. I don't think Hillary,McCain and Feingold have left "The Green Zone"
The "Rest of the World" just can't help but laugh, every time a Bi-Partisan ( i.e and i use that word very loosely) congressional group has the "guts" to turn up in Iraq and from "The Green Zone" announce that everything is going great and that the Iraqi Guerrillas are on the run.LOL
What these wealthy Americans should be doing is finding out exactly how many "Coalition of the Willing" troops are dead and wounded. That includes potential "Green card" holders, contractors, mercs and Special ops!!!!
Then they need to go back to America and announce the "REAL" numbers!!!
Why doesn't a Bi-Partisan Congressional Committe visit Fallujah. AL-Ramadi, Al-Tafar,Basra etc etc, Landstuhl,Walter Reed etc etc and find out whether "The Bush Gang" is lying or not!!!!
The "truth" may well be lying a few miles down the "Beltway"!!!!!

McCain was asked that today. He said they have not left the Green Zone
It also came up that the security was very heavy even inside the Green Zone.
