13. Possibly a scare tactic
To keep all these "lower-level" bloggers to stop digging? Sounds as such to me. However, how do you sue for information that was in the public domain, that he himself put out there? If he should sue anyone, it should be himself cause when it comes down to it, he brought this on himself.

Anyway you have to save these people at "Media Matters" whether you like it or not!!! Gannon is potentialy going to be "Huge"! These people are doing your organization's work for you on the cheap! You had better "save" them, because the "liberal" blogger machine can do a job on you!!!!!

There was no mention of this fact in the article. And there was no mention of the websites where Gannon advertised his services as a prostitute. Why would a GOPUSA reporter advertise his services with pictures of himself in his underwerar and dog tags around his neck?

20. part of gannon's defense during the CNN interview was to claim that his
"private life" was being invaded. in reality, his career was being examined! the man was an escort (c'mon, people, an escort is not always a whore... and what he does on his free time is his business). the truth is, though, anyone's career is fair game for examination once (s)he's in the public light.

my roommate in college (a woman) was an escort. I've learned a little more about that profession than I wanted to. It's illegal and requires advertising, so it's not part of anyone's "personal life".

18. This phony deserves every bit of the
"love" he is getting. What a fucking dick. I hope this means that the media has finally grown a backbone. but I sincerely doubt it.

If it's true, by the end of this administration, every voting member of the American populace will know how heinous this group of powermongers is.

Of course, there is a part of the population that is always going to vote for pukes simply because they are too ignorant, too imbecilic or too bullheaded to do otherwise, but it could definitely be a defining moment for the citizenry to see the damage perpetrated on our country by these assholes.

More important in my mind is to see what state the country is going to be in by 2008: the continual dumbing down of the people will likely end with the result that another country, most likely either
Germany or Japan, will be the newest emerging #1 world leader.
Strange that one of the WWII axis powers, after the Allied forces defeated them 60 years ago, could likely be the one that ultimately ends up in the premiere position of world power. Once again, too, it will be the hubris of a small group which will bring us down to the bowels of hell.

21. Stay In The Light, Jeffy!
Looks like the multi-faceted and narcissistic Mr. "Gannon" loves the attention.

What do you think the odds are that in a few weeks he'll have some interesting revelations to share that will insure he continues to get this level of attention?

After all, the events swirling about his life right now do suggest that a career change might be required. Can't image any reactionary organizations are going to be willing to continue bankrolling a guy with his kinds of sexual associations.

28. Classic pathological liar behavior
Jeffy is acting exactly like a pathological liar who's been caught out. He doesn't seem to have any idea what he's caught up in because he REALLY has no idea what he's caught up in. The lies have always worked for him in the past, and he's always been able to wiggle out of whatever trouble might have come his way. The last person I knew who was like this in RL ended up in jail. She seemed to think it was perfectly reasonable to blackmail a local businessman and expect him to give her $100,000 at a local McD's. When the FBI met her instead she was like, what's the problem? To this day she maintains her innocence even though she was nailed solid on tape and even told her babysitter she was going out to pick up $100K. I agree that if Jeffy keeps making trouble for his friends in high places they will shut him up somehow. He has no idea what the stakes are, it's just another game to him and he has no concept that it's a game he can lose.

34. Just posted this over at my blog
http://www.thecorrection.org/blog3/archives/2005/02/jeff_gannon_thr_1.php

According to the February 28 issue of Newsweek, Jeff Gannon, is contemplating suing "liberal interest groups, bloggers and others for a "political assassination" that drove him from his job as a reporter for a conservative news outfit called Talon News." What The Correction would like to know is how you sue someone for telling the truth over information found in the public domain? It wasn't Media Matters or Americablog who originally posted your services as a male escort and it wasn't Media Matters or Americablog that lied about having posted images to a porn site. It seems if he does indeed sue, it would be one of those frivolous lawsuits the right is so against.

I'd imagine many people would say, "Bring it on, James." Discovery is a bitch and you would most likely have more of your "private" life on display, including, information regarding your client list for your escort services and your source for the Plame information.

Ultimately, The Correction sees this more as a scare tactic to get bloggers to step back from their further investigation into Mr. Guckert's liason's. As folks in the blogosphere have been saying, there is more to this than just a sex scandal and Mr. Guckert's cry of foul only cements this ascertation.

37. investigating a "journalist"'s most recent career has nothing to do with
invasion of privacy...

but, on the other hand, getting into the public eye has its plusses. for example, gannon is quite a hoot as the object of Bill Maher's affections:

2. He is a "public figure" - and therefore would have to show actual malice - Sullivan v. New York Times.

43. Howard Kurtz on CNN this morning --
"--why isn't the Gannon story being covered in the media? Do you think its because the major outlets shy away from sex stories?" that's almost a verbatim quote --and proof that he has to have his head up his ass -- did he forget the salacious and unrelenting coverage of Clinton/Lewinsky the last several years? And do you notice that for some reason, the media isn't saying much about that lately, guess they don't want to remind us of their previous vigilance.
