MILTON -- A Milton Academy official said yesterday the school's decision to expel five male students for receiving oral sex from a 15-year-old sophomore girl was ''excruciating" but necessary to send a strong message to students, as students and parents expressed mixed reactions to the discipline.

I knew exactly what I was doing, what risks I was taking, and what the consequences might have been. I have no regrets, none at all, and I recall the "experience" with great pleasure.

Seems to me everyone is jumping on these kids with a "saint" or "sinner damned to hell" mentality, no shades of grey, no mitigating factors, nothing. And that goes for both the boys and the girl.

As the mother of a 14 year old, middle schooler, you have strengthened my argument. It doesn't even matter if you're right or wrong about this particular girl. Evidently, girls giving blow jobs casually is "no big deal" to these kids. Shockingly, it's the girls who are saying that (because I suspect the boys are telling them). As I explained to my daughter, don't let ANY boy tell you it's not a big deal, IT IS. Boys will be applauded, praised and put on pedestals for these fetes, girls will be condemned, ridiculed and branded. The more things change, the more they stay the same. As I said before, the more things change, the more they stay the same. When I was in high school, girls like that were called sluts. We have not evolved. I'm all for doing your own thing when you're an adult, but for some reason, 12 and 13 year old kids are getting the message that it's okay for them to engage in adult activities.
I don't believe in abstinence education, I don't think that it's helpful to withhold information and hope kids never get curious. However, when I'm queen of the world, I'm going to want someone to tell girls what the emotional ramifications of engaging in sex too young could be, as well as the physical consequences.
