Bush disappoints Europe with climate change ideas

By Jeff Mason

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush has disappointed European environmental activists who had hoped for a wider commitment from the world's largest polluter to fighting global warming.

"This is as groundbreaking as saying that Brussels has bad weather and good chocolate," said Greenpeace climate expert Mahi Sideridou on Monday.

On his first visit to Europe since his second inauguration a month ago, Bush stuck to familiar themes in a keynote speech meant to mend fences damaged by the Iraq war and U.S. rejection of the Kyoto environmental treaty.

(snip)

"All of us expressed our views on the Kyoto Protocol, and now we must work together on the way forward," Bush said in Brussels, headquarters of the 25-nation European Union.

2. No surprise there
What's the point of this European tour? Apparently to rebuild ties with our pissed-off allies... yet it seems he's going there to actually insult them in person. So far Bush and Condi have been telling the Europeans to a/ suck it, b/ get over it, c/ f*ck the environment.

Some progress...

4. I couldn't help but notice --
Bush says, "...now we must work together on the way forward".

Notice the word 'must'. This is a command. It's not a friendly suggestion. He went over there and he's telling them what to do.

The wording is very interesting, and it belies their core beliefs. I read an incredibly interesting article about Bush and his references to God.

The author mentioned that past presidents would say things like, "we pray for success" etc. They made appeals to God.

Bush, on the other hand, DEMANDS that God do this or that. If you study the wording, it becomes very clear. He has never appealed to God, he's telling God what he wants, and by God he'd better do it.

You mean the Europeans weren't interested in hearing on how we "must" work together? They weren't impressed with his greenhouse gas "intensity index"?

15. THIS BUSH QUOTE is ABSURD--
Edited on Mon Feb-21-05 02:36 PM by Blower
"All of us can use the power of human ingenuity to improve the environment for generations to come," Bush said on Monday.

COMMENT:

"INGENUITY" like tax breaks for SUVs?

"INGENUITY" like subsidizing the auto industry with unsustainable low interest rates which stick people with SUVs they can't afford to unload, cause they owe too much?

THAT is Bush ingenuity.
