Bush budget costs state $432.1 million
I'm sure there will be other reports nationwide from states singing the blues, no pun intended. Bush took Nevada by only 21,000 votes.

CARSON CITY -- President Bush's budget proposal will cost Nevada state and local governments $432.1 million by 2010, a Washington, D.C.-based liberal think tank said Tuesday.

The report from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities says public school funding cuts would cost Nevada $105.9 million. That would include $65.4 million for K-12 education, plus another $40.6 million for vocational education.

The center also said block grant funds that go to local governments would be reduced by $64 million.

Other reductions listed in the report include $12.6 million for services for abused and neglected children and Head Start. That would mean about 900 children would lose child care assistance, report authors said.

Nevada also would lose $3.7 million in funding for the Women, Infants and Children program, meaning about 3,800 fewer low-income families would get food provided through the WIC program, the report adds.

The document also says more than $22 million for housing agencies in Nevada would be cut.
