African American Mississippi Republicans Calling For Dean To Step Down
African American Republicans in the state are calling for the resignation of Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean for comments they say are racially insensitive. Mississippi Republican Executive Committee Member Charles Evers said Dean should apologize and step down. He told reporters Monday that in a February 11th speech to the DNC Black Caucus, Dean said quote "You think the Republican National Committee could get this many people of color in a single room?" Then added, "Only if they had hotel staff in here."

Evers said,"We feel he should apologize, not only to blacks in this country but to America period. It's time out for leaders to get up and make these statements that's gonna embarrass any race."

Mike Biggs, a member of the JSU College Democrats said,"The Republicans can take prescription drugs out of Medicaid and they can short change teachers with pay raises and they can take money from the public schools, and we don't hear Mr. Evers saying anything about that."

Dean is scheduled to be in Jackson Tuesday. We were unable to reach Mississippi Democratic Party Chairman Wayne Dowdy for comment.

4. This could be a real opportunity for Dean.
The spotlight is on him, everyone listening to see what he'll say. Hope he uses this opportunity wisely to advance the dems and not just merely defend the dems against the charge.

42. This is a real opportunity for us all.
To prove we will support our party when they have elevated one of our favorite people to the chairmanship.

You can't ask our elected people to hold the whole party up.

We have to get out to the mixed message boards and support Dean or they will drag him down as they do everyone who stands in their way.

7. As a Mississippi resident
I look forward to Governor Dean's visit tomorrow and his response to Mr Evers comments which obviously were provided to him. Doctor Dean is reviving an old Democratic talking point, before there were talking points - WE'LL STOP TELLING THE TRUTH ABOUT REPUBLICANS, WHEN THEY STOP TELLING LIES ABOUT DEMOCRATS.

WELCOME TO MISSISSIPPI DOCTOR DEAN. NOW KICK ASS!

The AFLCIO states that a large percentage of hotel workers are minorities. Now the question I have for these @#%& Republicans is, what's offensive about being called a "hotel worker." It's noble and necessary work. These people are CLASSISTS.

Talk about a need to REFRAME SHIT !!!

Be they yellow, black or white, they're Republicans in his sight.(Apologies to Ray Stevens)

They don't have a dog in this fight. I think everyone in the GOP should step down and that most of them should fall on their swords in shame and despair over what they've done to our country. And yet, they live. So they can just shut up about our party business, thank you very much.

43. African American Repugs in Mississippi ??? -
- considering that Mississippi is a red state and that about 1/3 of the population there is African American, looks to me like there must have been more than 2 or 3 black Repugs in the crowd.

Since African American's are supposed to be a huge part of our base, wouldn't our best chance of turning Mississippi blue be to court those very same black repugs? I don't think that ignoring their numbers and washing our hands of them will help us regain the south. We need to be working to bring them back to our fold.

BTW, I'm not speaking of Dean's comments. I'm responding to the postings within this thread.

How many African American Republicans from Mississippi can there be? This is nothing but an attempt to throw mud on Dean and by default, Democrats.
