Adviser to Mrs. Clinton Calls New York Governor's Presidential Outlook 'Laughable'

WASHINGTON, Feb. 28 - A Democratic Party strategist who is also a senior adviser to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton sharply criticized Gov. George E. Pataki on Monday, saying that the Republican governor's presidential prospects were "laughable."

The strategist, Howard Wolfson, made it clear that he was commenting only as a spokesman for the New York State Democratic Party and not as Mrs. Clinton's representative.

In unleashing the attack, Mr. Wolfson noted that the Feb. 28 issue of National Review, a conservative magazine, ran a cover story that was critical of Mr. Pataki's 10 years in office, citing in particular the increases in state spending under his leadership.

The cover featured a big-eared caricature of the governor's face superimposed over the body of Curious George, a fictitious monkey. "Spurious George," the headline reads. "The Pathetic Reign of New York's Governor Pataki."

3. but Pataki is a Yankee and prochoice Catholic
i'm sure they would not go after him as they did Kerry because they are hypocrites .

but Pataki wont get through the Republican Primary.

but he would be a good choice for us because he would be considered an outsider and it would make the south more competitive.

5. More in the NY Daily News! "Gov is George of the bungle"
Edited on Tue Mar-01-05 11:22 AM by johnfunk
Joe Mahoney reports:
Sen. Hillary Clinton's political guru mocked Gov. Pataki yesterday as a "laughingstock" with no hope of ever winning the White House.

"The prospect of his running for President is laughable," said Howard Wolfson, a veteran consultant who was speaking on behalf of the state Democratic Party. "I don't think anyone ... is taking it seriously."

A Democratic broadside against a Republican governor may seem like politics as usual. But New York senators typically work to stay on friendly terms with governors, and Wolfson's ties to Clinton - herself a possible presidential contender - raised eyebrows yesterday. Wolfson, who helped run Clinton's 2000 Senate race, remains a top Clinton adviser.

...

He also was stung by a story in the conservative National Review that depicted Pataki on its cover as a bicycle-riding monkey - "Spurious George" - and criticized him for failing to rein in spending. "If the Republicans are making fun of you and Democrats think you're doing a bad job, then there is not much out there for you," Wolfson said.
Priceless!
