New Russian Nuclear Missiles Irresistible — Defense Minister

There is no missile defense system in the world able to repulse new nuclear missiles that are being developed in Russia, defense minister Sergei Ivanov said on Tuesday.

“We know exactly what we already gain while developing such missiles. There is no defense from these missiles,” Russian Information Agency Novosti quoted the minister as saying.

Speaking to journalists, he added that Russia does not aim to attack any state with the new weapons.

...

Ivanov said Russia is against U.S. military bases at Georgian territory. “We see no sense in those bases,” the minister said.

6. Hehe yah someone may want to tell the Russians there
isn't any missile defense for them "work around".

I guess as long as the Russians pretend U.S. has a missile defense and the U.S. pretends the Russians are working around it, they can both continue to justify their ridiculous defense budgets.

Wow, just like the good old days.

33. Of COURSE we'd like protection from such things
The trouble is, we aren't going to get any protection from a "missle defense shield", it's just a method to funnel billions of tax dollars to defense contractors.

They want your governments money, and they will do anything to get it. Worried about Social Security? They've got a plan! North Korea scare you? They've got a plan! Are you a senior citizen? Worried about prescription medication costs? They've got a plan! The trouble is that when you take a closer look every plan they offer means looting your governments tax dollars and your pocket as well, while offering you nothing in return (and sometimes less than nothing).

It's not even a very good con job really. It amazes me that people keep falling for it.

10. Did the Soviet Union really crumble?
Or did the Bear go into hibernation and emerge as technologically advanced as America? What a nightmare, we let our hubris destroy our edge over the rest of the planet. I blame St. Reagan and his crew of thugs!

12. Yes he did, we flat out spent the Russians in the arms race.
They went broke before we did, don't worry it will come here soon. The U.S. is soon gonna find out what it's like to be just another country (bye bye superpower).

18. LOL! You bought into that Red Menace crap?
We WASTED 3 TRILLION dollars! Meanwhile China wasted NOTHING and Japan was rebuilt (thanks to us) into a superpower. The ME found oil, and the space race was on.

All the money we wasted on USELESS nukes! But yeah, Stalin was a bigger murderer than Hitler and needed to be fought, Krustav too. I just never bought into the hype.

15. I think that by Reagan arming bin Laden with Stinger missiles to shoot...
...down thousands of Soviet helicopters and planes in Afghanistan played a big role in the USSR downfall. I also think Putin may be in the process of repaying us for that in Iraq. And there won't be anything Bush can do about it either.

17. That weapon that blew a small hole right though an Abrams tank in Iraq..
...was probably a new Russian weapons system.

I am not sure if the Army determined what it was, but perhaps a particle beam or a strong laser weapon.

The Russkies are back in a big way it seems.

....like it was made of butter.

No way was this any RPG I know of or heard about, but the story below indicates that it might be.

A rail-gun, weapons-grade laser or other beam-type weapon perhaps is my guess.

Whatever it was, it had to be moving extremely fast to do this kind of damage, IMO.

You can read more about it here:

29. Sounds like a Russian Kornet-E laser-guided missile
http://www.drumbeat.mlaterz.net/April%202003/Abrams%20tank%20hits%20nasty%20surprise%20040203a.htm

Abrams Tank Hits Nasty Surprise for U.S. Forces

Defense analysts believe the three -- perhaps five -- M1-A2 Abrams tanks which have been disabled so far appear to have been hit by a weapon far more potent than the decades-old RPG-7 rocket propelled grenade.

Instead, it seems the Iraqis -- who say they have knocked out dozens of U.S. tanks -- may be using the Kornet-E, an export version of a Russian laser-guided missile which can destroy tanks fitted with explosive reactive armor. snip

The Kornet-E has a range of around five km (three miles).

The operator uses either optical or thermal sights to track a target, and the missile -- whose warhead first burrows a small hole in a tank and then goes whipping around inside the vehicle -- is guided by a laser beam.

36. Lasers ?
What, you think Iraqis were running about with backback lasers ? Like Ghostbusters ?

Thats pretty funny. Its no wonder that these strange ideas spread around the Internet.

The Russians have some pretty exotic RPG's these days. The RPG-7 is 50 years old. Modern shaped charges can defeat 600mm of steel, no problems.

The M1 has state of the art armour, but only the frontal arc can be fully protected, the thing weighs over 60 tonnes as it is. The sides and rear are much much weaker.

16. theory: 1989 USSR outstripped it's supply of oil
which is the same scenario the USA faces
this year:

http://www.conspiracyplanet.com/channel.cfm?channelid=49&contentid=1971&page=2

Speaking of math,  I did the oil figures a couple of weeks
ago, and it's worth repeating. Of the the 80 million barrels a
day the world burns, we burn one quarter of that, or 20
million barrels a day. Every five days we burn a hundred
million barrels. Every fifty days America burns one billion
barrels of oil. Every year we burn seven billion barrels. The
US has 28 billion barrels of oil left. If we burned every last drop
of our own oil, and somehow lost access to foreign imports,
our oil would last four more
years.

42. They fixed the translation: "New Russian Nuclear Missiles Unstoppable "
.
.
.

And yes, as some posters noted

It's sad to think what GOOD could have been done with the US taxpayer's money instead of destroying a defenseless country, and ruining the World's opinion of the US at the same time . .

Take away the threats, bribes, favors and fear, how many countries WOULD would the US have in it's mickey-mouse "coalition"?
