ANWR Drilling Likely in Senate Budget -Panel Head
Source: Reuters
http://reuters.iwon.com/article/20050301/2005-03-01T233323Z_01_N01397797_RTRIDST_0_POLITICS-CONGRESS-ANWR-DC.html

Sen. Judd Gregg, the New Hampshire Republican who chairs the Budget Committee, said there is a "reasonable chance" that language to open ANWR will be in the budget.

Giving oil companies access to ANWR's potential 16 billion barrels of crude is a key part of the Bush administration's energy plan to reduce U.S. oil imports, but the Senate has rejected multiple attempts to open it.

The administration is so confident ANWR will finally be opened that it included in its 2006 budget request to Congress $2.4 billion in fees it expects the Interior Department to collect from leasing tracts in the refuge for oil drilling.

The comes as U.S. oil prices hover above $50 a barrel and the United States is more dependent than ever on foreign oil imports to meet its energy needs.

1. These crooks do not even care that they do not represent US
citizens. Most Americans are against drilling in ANWR. It is time for the mattresses and a full scale assault. The environment is the most important issue bar none.

5. "The environment is the most important issue"
You are right-It supercedes all "political" diversions. The source of all our strength and spirit.

4. None of this production is ever as good as promised....
For instance, in 2003:
BP plans to shut Alaska North Slope oil field

http://www.planetark.com/dailynewsstory.cfm/newsid/21455/story.htm

<snip>Located midway between Prudhoe Bay and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), Badami was once seen as a vital link to new oil production on the eastern North Slope.

The field is estimated to hold 120 million barrels, but reservoir problems limited daily production to no more than 18,000 barrels, well below the expected rate of 30,000 barrels, and currently it produces 1,300 barrels a day, which Beaudo called "uneconomic".

Some environmentalists say Badami's fortunes show that oil prospects on the eastern North Slope -- particularly in the wildlife refuge -- are less than development backers predicted.

"It's such a good example of how the industry continues this big hype about estimates of reserves," said Eleanor Huffines, Alaska regional director for The Wilderness Society.<snip>

The North Slope has never done what was hyped - the original plan was for five parallel lines, but production has never warranted it...

But can oil cronies write off big bucks on their existing production by undertaking "wildcat" operations in the North? You betcha.

Like flies, they shit on what they don't eat...

6. I bet this is why Bush isn't having the Saudis turn on the spigots!
If he did the price of oil would go down and he wouldn't have as much of a case as to why we need to drill in the Arctic! It sounds like price gouging (like at Enron). Anyone see a trend? It's evil genius--the only kind they have!
