GOP event shows rift in Oregon factions

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Two former Republican statewide leaders say their names were used without their permission on an invitation for a party fund-raiser.

Clay Myers — a moderate Republican who was secretary of state when Tom McCall was governor — said he's boycotting the Friday event because he thinks the party has moved too far to the right.

Bill Rutherford, another moderate who served as state treasurer, said, "They hijacked my name," and that he didn't even know about the event until he got invited to attend — for a $250 donation.

GOP Chairman Kevin Mannix said he regrets that some don't want to participate in an event meant to bring factions together. All types of Republicans are slated for special acknowledgment at the money-raiser that he said is the biggest the party has held in years. (snip/...)
