Tobin to lead Bush regional campaign (New England)
Back when Jim Tobin was national political director for Steve Forbes' presidential campaign, people around the country asked him all the time where he was from.

"People would assume I would be from Washington, D.C.," he said Sunday. He was not and is not. Tobin was born in Windham, educated at Bates College in Lewiston and lives in Bangor. And last week, he was named regional chairman of Bush-Cheney '04. He will oversee the campaign in Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Tobin, whose father is state Rep. David Tobin, a Republican from Windham, said that Ken Mehlman, the president's campaign manager, called him to talk about the unpaid job. After that, Karl Rove, the president's top political adviser, also called.
