Hundreds protest Bush visit to North Jersey
WESTFIELD, N.J. - Hundreds of people rallied in this Union County town today to protest a visit by President Bush launching a 60-day White House campaign to promote his plan to create personal accounts within social security.

The protestors, including elected officials, gathered in a department store's employees parking lot and marched to about a quarter-mile from the Westfield Armory, where Bush spoke at a "town hall" meeting.

Following a red, white and blue bus, they blew whistles, chanted and carried signs that said such things as "Social Security is our right."

Among those addressing the crowd was Rep. Robert Menendez, D-Hudson County, who blasted Bush's proposal to allow workers under 55 to establish private investment accounts with a portion of their payroll taxes.

"He comes like a traveling salesman," the congressman said. "If he had a good product we'd welcome him. But he's selling snake oil."

4. Can someone give me the scoop on Congressman Menendez?
Would he be a good consideration for the VP spot on a Democratic ticket in 08?

Or is he waiting for Frank Lautenberg to step down?

I sure like what he's doing in this Union County protest.

5. He's the front runner for Corzine's seat...
If Corzine wins the Governor's office, then it is more than likely that he will appoint Menendez as acting senator. However there is some grumblings that he had an affair so who knows what will happen when that shit hits the fan

7. Hi, Rev. Smitty, and thanks for the update on Menendez.
I've had a look at the biographies of some really great people and so far haven't found any who are perfect, so if Menendez had an affair, I hope New Jersey voters will acknowledge his strengths rather than harping on his marital flaws.

Thank you for the info & insight -- much appreciated.

13. Grumblings about an affair? Ya know, I really don't car what anyone does
in their private life. Have as many affairs as you want, and that's your partners problem to deal with.

But please tell me WHY, when people have political aspirations, they can't seem to...keep their powder dry.

I didn't care about Bill and Monica. That was Hillary's problem. But Bill pissed me off big time because he handed his opposition all the amunition they needed to destroy his Presidency. He took the opportunity to have a GREAT DEMOCRAT PRESIDENT away from all of us.

Free Speech Zones. Patriot Act. I feel better, don't you.

Protestors were "allowed" to be 1/4 mile away. You think it got much coverage? No! Hey guys we are on a 60 day, 60 city TOUR to launch, to promote and to scare the shit out of you! Just 60 days, that's all.
