Guard unit that questioned Rumsfeld getting armor
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. New armored Humvees are arriving in Iraq for the National Guard's 278th Regimental Combat Team, the unit with a member who questioned Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld about vehicle armor.

The Army delivered more than two dozen new, fully-armored Humvees to the unit this week at Camp Caldwell in northeastern Iraq. A second shipment is scheduled to arrive next week

Regiment commander Colonel Dennis Adams said the Humvees will be used in patrolling a sector of Iraq near the Iranian border.
...
In December, after the 278th arrived in Kuwait, Specialist Jerry Wilson of Ringgold, Georgia asked Rumsfeld why his unit was forced to scavenge for used metal and bulletproof glass.
...
Adams said he is unsure why Army officials sent the Humvees now.

Sounds like they are planning to stick around in Iraq for a while doesn't it?

10. The camp was named after a KIA
According to a letter from a chaplain assigned there:

"Caldwell was named after an American soldier who was killed as the U.S. came in to occupy this facility."

11. Thank you. That's fitting. I was afraid it was named after somebody who
works for Halliburton. Although, it would be more fitting if Caldwell were home enjoying his life and his family and no such place as "Camp Caldwell" existed.

8. Where are the APC that the Pentagon said was to replace the Humvees???????
Edited on Fri Mar-04-05 04:42 PM by happyslug
The Pentagon has said for at least six months that I have been following the lack of Armor Story was that the Humvees were to be replaced by M113s. The M113s Armored Personal Carriers (APCs) were to be pulled out of storage and issued to given more protection to the troops than even the up-armored Humvees??

(Please ignore the parts after the M113 Article, he recites Right Wing properganda but has a good article on why the M113 should replace the Humvee for patrol duties in Iraq.)
