India offers Venezuela refinery stake, eyes oilfield
A couple of articles about the oil deals being struck between Venezuela and India. No mention of the propaganda appearing in the MSM.

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India will offer Venezuela equity in a refining firm and take a stake a Venezuelan oilfield to cement growing ties between Asia's third largest consumer and the World's No. 5 exporter, top officials said on Friday.

State-run Oil and Natural Gas Corp. (ONGC), which is bidding for foreign oil assets to secure energy supplies, is likely to take a 49 percent stake in the San Cristobal oilfield, Petroleum Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar said.

In return, Petroleos de Venezuela would be offered equity in ONGC's refining subsidiary, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd, Aiyar told reporters after meeting Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ali Rodriguez.

"MRPL can process Venezuelan crude. In April, a delegation will go to Venezuela to discuss various issues including the quality of crude oil and the volume available," Aiyar said.

Venezuela wants long-term oil deal with India

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - OPEC (news - web sites)-member Venezuela wants to supply crude oil to India, Asia's third-biggest consumer, under a long-term agreement, President Hugo Chavez said on Friday.

"We want to have a long-term agreement for crude oil with India," Chavez told a forum of Indian business leaders.

"Tomorrow, we will sign agreements with the prime minister for energy cooperation. We want to start to supply petroleum in a permanent way, the same as we do with the United States," he said.

India imports 70 percent of its crude needs. It consumed 2.46 million barrels per day (bpd) in 2004 and is forecast to use 2.53 million bpd this year, estimates from the International Energy Agency show.

4. He's got guts! Independent Latin American leaders who don't bow
to the U.S. and wait for orders are ALWAYS going to be in trouble until they finally get strong enough to protect themselves.

Chavez's alliances with Russia, China, India, etc., as well as the newly forming solidarity in Latin America may go a long way toward keeping Venezuela not only protected from the corrupt former oligarchy, but also from wild aggression from Bush. I surely hope that's the story.

Thanks for the great photo of Hugo Chavez and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

at the Summit of the Americas. Must have been a tense day for TortureBoy. First he had a tantrum and threatened to boycott the place if Fidel was there and then he had to listen to Hugo knock his free trade ideas. HA HA

On edit: You're right Chavez does have guts. He makes Chimpy look like the Woos we all know that he is.

8. This is truly history in the making.
Moral of the story: 2 can play World-class Chess. Right, Bush?

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what's happening here. Venezuela is making these alliances highly publicized. They will have ceremony after ceremony highlighting that they are going ELSEWHERE.

That Elsewhere is bound to protect its interests. Namely, China and India, the 2 Emerging World Powers. And Chavez wants it to be known.

Cool. As Bush and Cheney sit in Washington, fuming, Chavez is having a wonderful day.

13. A foreign diplomat--too many years back to remember who--made
the observation that while Fidel was playing chess and way ahead of everyone else, Bush was still playing checkers. It was great. Reminds me of what Chavez is doing now.

Chavez: No oil if U.S. 'gets a little bit crazy'

Updated: 9:52 a.m. ET March 4, 2005

NEW DELHI - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez warned Friday that his nation, the world's fifth-largest oil exporter, would cut off oil supplies to the United States if Washington tries to "hurt" his country, news reports said. "We want to supply oil to the United States. We are not going to avoid supplying of oil unless the U.S. government gets a little bit crazy and tries hurt us," he told reporters during a visit to India, according to Dow Jones Newswires.

"If there is any aggression, there will be no oil," Chavez said.

17. Cuba's Mercosur Bid Could Be Roadblock
<clips>

...Cuba's trade with Brazil and Mercosur is still small, but has doubled since Silva was elected and may increase more in the petroleum sector.

Brazilian state-run oil firm Petroleo Brasileiro SA and Venezuela's state-oil company Petroleos de Venezuela SA this year plan to start building a US$20 million (euro15 million) lubricants factory in Cuba. Petrobras is also interested in exploring deep-water oil blocks off the coast of Cuba, which has small, but rising oil production.

...Experts said the issue of a possible Cuban associate membership in Mercosur just as FTAA talks are about to gain a new life may be no coincidence.

"This could be another bargaining chip by Mercosur to gain concessions from the United States in the FTAA talks," says David Fleischer, a political analyst at the University of Brasilia. "It increases the pressure on the United States."
