FDA Seizes Batches of Two Glaxo Drugs

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (news - web sites) said on Friday that officials had seized batches of GlaxoSmithKline Plc's diabetes drug Avandamet and the controlled-release antidepressant Paxil CR because of concerns over manufacturing quality.

The FDA (news - web sites) said in a statement that the manufacturing practices for the two drugs failed to meet standards for safety, strength, quality and purity.


The agency said, however, that it was not aware of any harm to consumers and did not believe there was a significant health hazard.

The pharmacorps can make way more off people if they have to take their meds than if they are healthy.

My brother worked for them as a contract engineer for 7 years. From my layman’s understanding of it, his job was to make sure the quality of the manufacturing environment was maintained according to specifications.

His whole team was phased out, with the last leaving about 2 years ago.

I asked him what would happen. He understood there would not be regular maintenance, just probably things would get fixed as they broke down. (I don’t know if this ultimately happened.)

I was more worried about those “experimental” areas – and what would happen if some of that stuff went out of control. (That’s another interesting story, but not for here.) But he told me that more likely it would be detrimental to the batches produced and either they would be spoiled, or go to market as an inferior product.

Good on the FDA! I cannot WAIT to hear what bro says about this. BTW – repuke and went to another drug co. and hates I rail on big pharma.

I wonder why your brother would be mad that you speak negatively about big pharmaceuticals. Maybe he's just being loyal to his bread-n-butter.
