Iran threatens to end nuclear treaty with EU Fri. 4 Mar 2005

Iran Focus

Tehran, Mar. 04 – Iran today threatened to end its nuclear agreement with the European Union "big three", saying that it would not be bound to previous commitments, if they continued to call for permanent suspension of uranium enrichment by the Iranian regime.

If the Europeans do not abide by the Iran-EU nuclear agreement and ask for a permanent suspension of uranium enrichment, Iran will not fulfill its commitments, the regime's spokesman Abdollah Ramezanzadeh said in an interview with the state-run Mehr news agency.

Ramezanzadeh said that the EU big three had not officially demanded that Iran to permanently suspend its uranium enrichment program, but were they to make such a demand officially, Iran would have no reason to fulfill its previous commitments.

1. Why announce this before the fact?
And why do so publicly.

2. Why not?
Why would they not want to go public?
Why not beforehand?

5. Why give bush and fox news extra ammunition
Why not quietly discuss the matter with the EU directly.

3. W on free nations & nukes
My "Presidential Speak" calendar notes that on 10/8/03 Bush said, "See, free nations do not develop weapons of mass destruction" (entry for 2/24/05). Stupid people are incapable of either thinking logically or perceiving irony, I guess.

If I had a known bully sitting on my doorstep, I'd be trying desperately to obtain as big a stick as possible to keep him or her at bay. The U.S. and France did that, so it's difficult to see how they could expect other nations to ignore their example. Even the threat of obtaining THE big stick seems to have gotten the attention of the small man/big bully sitting in the White House.

8. I guess if you consider Hezbollah equal to the Girl Scouts, then...
....Iran's support of that group would be considered benign and peaceful.

.....so you're saying that Hezbollah is like the Girl Scouts and the CURRENT Iranian government only has peaceful intentions in mind?

12. If the topic were US administrations that support death squads...
Edited on Fri Mar-04-05 06:54 PM by Blue to the bone
...in S. America, I'd be on board howling about them. But the topic is Iran and their true intentions.

Until our side begins to see some of these regimes for the plague that they are, we'll continue to be painted by the other side as being on the wrong side.

Too often, our reaction to what this criminal administration is doing or saying is to assume that the targeted party (such as Iran) is as pure as the driven snow. I say we should agree that they're what they are, but then point out how we'd approach the problem differently.

All negative, all the time, loses elections.....all the time.

16. iran is a democracy that has invaded nobody
That to all evidence is, as national all over the earth are,
developing sustainable skills in nuclear power and fuel recycling.

To on one hand claim to want democracy spread, and then to dictate
what sort of democracy will not be invaded, really leaves us on
thin melted ice.

17. You have cleared the air
I can certainly agree with that.
I believe Iran has every right to build whatever they wish.
And Iran will always need power.
Oil will not last forever.
