Iran warns of oil crisis over nuclear issue
http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200503/s1316881.htm

Iran's top nuclear official has warned the United States and Europe of the danger of an oil crisis if Tehran is sent before the United Nations Security Council over its nuclear program, but said that a deal with Europe could be near.

"The first to suffer will be Europe and the United States themselves, this would cause problems for the regional energy market, for the European economy and even more so for the United States," Hassan Rowhani, whose country is the second largest oil producer in OPEC, said.

Mr Rowhani, who was speaking at a conference in Tehran on nuclear technology and sustainable development, however expressed optimism that an agreement would be reached with Europe over the development of Iran's nuclear program.

EU members Britain, France and Germany are trying to convince Iran to dismantle nuclear fuel work - which the US says is part of a covert atomic weapons development - in return for economic and political rewards.

A shot over the bow.

I predict a fairly quick settlement brokered by the EU

3. Since Smirky is a bully
and ONLY picks on those countries who he thinks can't effectively fight back, the EU is safe from invasion.

4. Well he is going to be surprised if he
thinks Iran is going to be a "cakewalk" like Iraq. The Iranians have a military that can and will fight back.

16. What if our goal is a failed state in Iran?
Edited on Sat Mar-05-05 12:16 PM by megatherium
Not to occupy or control them, merely reduce their economy, military and nuclear assets to rubble and prevent them from restarting a nuclear program or otherwise threatening us?

10. can you explain the meaning of your post to me?
Edited on Sat Mar-05-05 11:31 AM by scarletlib
It seems to me that you are implying that because Iran is speaking up for itself and making counter-threats/statements against the maladministration that now bushco will most certainly bomb them.

Is that a correct interpretation? Is this meant to imply no one can stand up for themselves against bush? Is no country allowed to defend itself?

This isn't a flame I just want to understand the meaning of your statement.

12. He probably meant US will turn Iran into a glassland - flat like a parking
lot - by nuking them. I smell something.

17. I hope you are wrong
but nothing bush would do could surprise me at this point.

If he does use nukes we can write off the entire frickkin world. We will have no support from anyone anywhere. Even Tony couldn't go along with that.

If bush nukes Iran then I say that is the end of this country. The rest of the world can take us down without firing a shot. Economics is the end of us.

20. that's what I was saying
that it's not wise to tempt the cowboy. We couldn't win an invasion type scenario right now so if they're hell-bent on messing with Iran and it's phantom menace (see Iraq for reference), then it's going to have to be death from above kids. Cue the B-52's and stealth bombers.

6. I think bush the bully is getting bullied - excellent!
Iran is talking straight. They be talking oil.
If bush invades, Iran needs to destroy neighboring oil fields.
They need to tell bush and the world that this is their
intention. The meme should be: attack sovereign Iran and
your gas prices will triple overnight.
Bush supporters are idiots, but they don't want to pay
$6.00 at the pump.

Power.
Weapons.
Powerful weapons.

8. There you have it. Further evidence of why Bushco is in favor...
...of causing a stir in Iran....higher oil prices.

Who benefits?

I think these oil-rich nations have got the message that only the threat of force and economic intimidation works with the imperialist Bush junta.

15. Wouldn't be the first time. I lived through the embargo in the early 70's
Edited on Sat Mar-05-05 12:14 PM by NNN0LHI
It wasn't pretty. We were waiting in line for gas like the Iraqis are now. Sit in line for a couple of hours to buy 10 bucks worth of gas. And the station owners made you feel like you stole something. Lot of ultra-violence in them lines too. Especially on hot days. Before that the stations used to pump your gas, check your oil, and wash your windows. They always had promotions for free laundry detergent, or free sets of dishes or silverware. That all ended back then.

11. Well, it's refreshing to hear the truth for a change
Attack us and we won't sell you any oil.

Not that I'm pleased with that message. I mean, jackass and his toadies are arrogant enough to plunge onward regardless of -any- threats.

As is always the case, we the peons will be the ones paying dearly for his ego-inspired march to conquer the world.

The only sustaining thought through the tumultuous times ahead will be knowing that the sheep are taking it in the a$$ just like the rest of us. We, OTOH, can hold our heads high knowing we did our utmost to prevent the overthrow of our government, whereas the goosesteppers threw out the red carpet.

19. RIP American Hegemony
First Venezuela and now this. The rest of the world has a veto over the USA and it's OIL.

Of course this action could precipitate the next round of nationalistic fevor, fascist creep, who knows.

We're in for a bumpy ride.
