(Wash.) Democrats charge GOP list of 'illegal' votes full of errors

LEWIS KAMB AND NEIL MODIE
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTERS

The state Republican Party's list of people it claims voted illegally in Washington's ultra-close gubernatorial election is riddled with inaccuracies and "smears the names of innocent people," lawyers for state Democrats said yesterday.

In a hastily called news conference in downtown Seattle, attorneys defending Gov. Christine Gregoire chastised the Republicans and candidate Dino Rossi for releasing the list of more than 1,100 suspect voters without first properly checking election documents to verify the claims.

Instead, the Democratic attorneys said, news accounts already are turning up people who have been erroneously accused -- voters with the same names as felons, innocent people whose identities had been stolen and used by criminals, or others who never have been convicted of a crime.

"I think it's time that people start asking Dino Rossi, 'When are you going to do your homework, when are you going to stop damaging people's names in your quest for power,' " said David McDonald, an attorney for Democrats.

The same question could have been asked in 2000.

2. It'll be like the 2000 gop list in Fla.
Some people were "convicted" in 2007!

Thanks for post!

5. Why do Pugs think it's good for felons to count votes but not to vote?
Count votes, as in secretly write the computer code that secretly counts the votes. Convicted felons/hackers, convicted of hacking code to commit fraud.
