Former Bergen County Freeholder Todd Caliguire formally entered the governor's race Thursday, declaring that New Jersey politics should be fueled by innovative ideas and not big-money campaign spending.
In announcing his formal candidacy, Caliguire said he would eschew the trappings of traditional campaigns such as "balloon drops or bumper stickers," and forgo hiring a pollster - routine actions for most gubernatorial candidates.
Caliguire, who will post an audio file of his announcement on his campaign Web site at noon today, said his campaign would focus primarily on taxes, a state bureaucracy that he believes is overgrown and attacking transportation issues such as traffic congestion.
Caliguire said he would soon announce details of how he would reduce the state government's payroll by 15 percent and cut income tax by 5 percent.
