China calls on US to start bilateral talks with N. Korea

BEIJING - The United States should meet one-on-one with North Korea to help revive stalled six-nation talks on the North’s nuclear program, a Chinese official was on Saturday quoted as saying.

“To restart negotiations and make progress, I hope Washington agrees to hold bilateral talks with Pyongyang,” said Yang Xiyu, director of the China Foreign Ministry’s Office for Korean Peninsula Issues, according to the official newspaper China Daily.

Such contacts could be similar to bilateral discussions held by the United States with the other governments taking part in talks, Yang was quoted as saying.

Washington demands the North give up its nuclear program and has rejected one-on-one talks with North Korea, arguing that the problem is regional and requires a multinational settlement.

Boy, they were sure helpful with this nuclear crisis. Here Boosh, go talk to Pyongyang your own damn self. See ya.

1. That's the one thing the US has always rejected, bilateral talks
Looks like the world's future superpower has just told Bush that he is on his own with North Korea.

Bush will have to sit down across the table from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), or he gets a stalemate.

3. A little bit o' handwashing.
Don't know if it's because they're pissed at * or if the dear Kimling suggested some interesting manoeuvres with chopsticks that the Chinese found less than appetizing.
