W.Va. colleges near the top of ‘pork’ list
http://www.wvgazette.com/section/News/2003092227

West Virginia colleges grabbed more congressional funding this year than those in all but eight states, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education’s annual report released Monday.

It was a record year for college “pork,” too, despite the projected $480 billion federal budget deficit. For the first time, members of Congress earmarked more than $2 billion for specific college research and construction projects in their districts.

That’s 600 percent more than seven years ago

1. College funding in one of the poorest states is pork?
And some of the money goes to study animals in a way that will benefit society overall? Shocking.

6. High school grads are promised a spot at any WV college and Univ.
If you are an "A" student you automatically get a scholarship but I'm not sure if it is a full ride.

Also immunizations for kids under 5 years old (and Dr. visits I think) are free.

you see it is all called "Breaking the cycle" and it is working.

2. I love Senator Byrd, I really do
I lived in West Virginia for years and he was my senator. But, that said, he is the KING of pork. The New River Gorge Bridge has a rest stop with a movie theater for God's sake.

4. Typical bad reporting.
When you only have 50 states to start with, being number 9 barely puts you in the top twenty percent. What a crock this article is.

idiots in Congress decide what deserves research funding.

Note the total amounts involved, not the silly stuff about WV.
