ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Turkish police have detained dozens of protesters after using pepper spray, batons and boots to break up a demonstration by women's rights supporters, news reports say.

A group of around 150 people gathered in Istanbul on Sunday ahead of International Women's Day on March 8. Police intervened after protesters refused to disperse and detained 59 people, including 29
women, private news channel NTV said.

Television pictures showed riot police charging protesters, beating them with batons and kicking them on the ground. One policeman beat a woman to the ground with his baton, then another ran up and kicked her in the face.

A police vehicle was damaged by stone-hurling protesters, and some demonstrators were injured in the melee, NTV said.

1. I wonder if this will elicit much condemnation from around the world.

2. You would have to wonder
who's behind these demonstrators from Turkey to Labonan....this is indeed our taxes money at work...a known old CIA undercover missions. Why Turkey? Because Turkey is looking for membership in the European union, while Turkey is against the Kurdish autonomy of northern Iraq, hence slowing down the political negotiations in Iraq. US is using the European Union representatives to pressure Turkey to allow Kurdish political wing in northern Iraq to be part of the newly elected Iraqi government
