China Eyes 'Non-Peaceful Means' Against Taiwan as Last Resort
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=worldNews&storyID=7832566

BEIJING (Reuters) - China will use "non-peaceful means" to stop Taiwan's secession from China should all efforts for a peaceful reunification prove futile, one of the country's top lawmakers said on Tuesday.

"Using non-peaceful means to stop secession in defense of our sovereignty and territorial integrity would be our last resort when all our efforts for a peaceful reunification should prove futile," according to a copy of a speech by Wang, a vice-chairman of parliament, to the lawmaking body.

1. Taiwan..
They need a few Aegis cruisers, along with a couple of old Soviet SS series nukes to insure their own safety. Taiwan is beginning to worry me.

3. I wish they had gotten the diesel subs they want.
But the shipyards decided they couldn't risk letting little things like Taiwan come between them and lucrative bids.

7. Same here.
When I read stuff like, "...would be our last resort..." it makes me very nervous. Unlike the Bush the Strutting Clown, China says what it means.

They tend to be straightforward, direct, but they don't mince words. They really do "speak softly and carry a very big stick".

I wonder if Washington even has the capacity to understand what China is really saying. They're so dense that they wouldn't understand diplomacy if they tried.

They're just - losers.

Stupid lunatics with missiles.:smoke:

4. The question is what is the US going to do if China attacks Taiwan
My question is why would Red China attack when it can simply set the date of reunification and avoid all bloodshed entirely ? Just as with Hong Kong's lease, Red China can declare that the Taiwan 'province' was given a 'de facto' lease ... from 1948 till say twenty years from now. By then the mainland will want the Taiwanese style of government, not the top-down dictatorship-style of government.

6. Surely China doesn't want to play too rough and damage the goods....

If Taiwan were too badly beaten up in a 'war' over it, there might not be too much left to fight over when they're done. It might set that golden goose back decades if they have to rebuild it, and they would have left an embittered populace in its wake.

Besides our vulnerable and dependent economic status, those who would like to bring the U.S. to heel can simply go around the globe setting fires for us to put out, that ultimately stretches us beyond our means.

Bushco is beating its chest and yelling, "I'm king of the world!" while our country heads full steam toward an iceberg.

10. They will just repopulate Taiwan with mainlanders like we are doing in Iraq
They will probably call them contractors.

8. Okay so "non-peaceful" is newspeak for war...
Is that what I'm hearing now? I just want to get that clear since I didn't get the memo.

9. It has the same effect as the Iraq War Resolution did here
It gives the Chinese military the green light to invade and occupy Taiwan whenever they feel it is necessary.
