Bush Says Authoritarian Rule in Mideast Should End
Reuters
Tue Mar 8, 2005 10:58 AM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush said on Tuesday authoritarian rule in the Middle East is the "last gasp of a discredited past" and he demanded Syria pull troops out of Lebanon before Lebanese parliamentary elections in May.

Bush used a wide-ranging speech at the National Defense University to lend verbal support to what he called a trend toward democracy in the Middle East.

"Suddenly the thaw has begun," he declared.

Bush specifically pointed to Lebanon, where a pro-Syrian government has fallen due to protests over the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri, and where Syria is under strong pressure to withdraw 14,000 troops as well as intelligence personnel.

1. Coventina Says Authoritarian Rule in U.S. Should End!
Edited on Tue Mar-08-05 11:26 AM by Coventina
Coventina said on Tuesday that the Bush administration is the last gasp of a discredited 19th century Robber-Baron style of autocratic government.

Most members of the Bush administration are guilty of war or other crimes and should be impeached or otherwise prosecuted for their many, many offenses.

16. Could he say "Last gasp of a discredited past"? It's tough for ME to say
Isn't Bush saying these homelies of his, telling the world to clean up it's act
akin to the Devil Himself saying "Y'all be good, now - ya hear?"

Aides then quickly ushered the president out of the briefing room. The White House declined any further comment.

DU News

CYBERSPACE (DU News) - Jack Rabbit said on Tuesday authoritarian rule in the United States is the "the last gasp of a discredited administration" and demanded that war crimes tribunals be convened to try and punish those guilty of the illegal invasion of Iraq and the construction of a worldwide network of gulags and torture chambers.

Mr. Rabbit further rejected as crude post hoc reasoning the attempts by the former Governor of Texas, G. W. Bush, to take credit for demonstrations in Lebanon demanding the withdrawal of foreign troops from Lebanese soil.

"It is ludicrous to suppose that the imposition of foreign troops in Iraq is viewed as a favorable state of affairs by people demanding the removal of foreign troops from Lebanon," he said.

Mr. Rabbit specifically pointed out that the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri was the catalyst of anti-Syrian demonstrations in Lebanon and had nothing to do with events in Iraq.

17. I'd like to see him make this speech in Ryadh, Islamabad, or Cairo.
Hmm, I guess that's all still okay within his verbage. Autocratic rule is still okay, just not Authoritarian.

19. tom_paine says authoritarian rule in Imperial Amerika Should End
but probably won't end, for the Imperial Family has invested too much time and money and the Old American System of Checks and Balances is incapable of self-correcting at this point.

tom_paine sees no end to Authoritarian Rule in Amerika.
