US up in arms over `anti-secession' law - TW/ CN Bastards
The US lashed out at China's proposed "anti-secession" law Tuesday, with the White House is calling on Beijing to rethink its plan to enact the law and the commander of the US Forces Pacific calling the law "disconcerting" in its potential impact on the security of the region.

The reaction came as the Bush administration got its first substantive glimpse of the law through a summary provided as an "explanation" delivered by National People's Congress official Wang Zhaoguo (???) to the NPC session on Monday.

Washington's reaction took aim at the law's provision that would permit the State Council and the Central Military Commission to order Chinese troops to attack Taiwan if Beijing decides that future Taiwanese actions move too far toward the "fact" of independence.

5. Beijing has a new yes-man - EU Beijing has a new yes-man
While the US and Japan are busy expressing their concern over China's "anti-secession" legislation, the EU's silence leaves one to wonder if the union has disappeared from the face of the earth -- or has become the paid-for lackey of the autocrats in Beijing.

The past few years have shown us that the EU is partial to China when it comes to the cross-strait issue, believing that its business interests are best served by kowtowing to Beijing. It is also clear that the EU's desire to be seen as a competitor of the US in the international political arena has overwhelmed its common sense.

If it wants to be taken seriously in world affairs, then the EU might consider adopting some of the mannerisms of a serious player. It might consider being pragmatic, rather than simply posturing like a vain peacock.

6. This would complete the 180-degree
turnabout of the Republican Party since Lincoln if it would go ahead and sign on to secession movements for "freedom and democracy" all over the world.

Of course, the first thing that would happen would be the secession of about 18 blue states which comprise most of the wealth and tax base of the flagging Confederate Empire of North America which currently hold power.
