<snip>

U.S. embassy spokesman Bob Callahan said Ambassador John Negroponte was traveling on the airport road to meet General George Casey, commander of multinational forces in Iraq, at a U.S. base next to Baghdad airport.

"The mobile checkpoint was set up for the security of the ambassador who was on his way to dinner at Camp Victory with General Casey," Callahan said. "This was a mobile checkpoint that was set up on a temporary basis."

U.S. soldiers killed intelligence agent Nicola Calipari on the road to Baghdad airport on Friday night as he threw his body over freed Italian hostage Giuliana Sgrena to protect her from a hail of bullets. She was wounded.

Callahan said Negroponte usually traveled to the airport by helicopter but a hailstorm forced him to go by motorcade.

"The ambassador traveled past the checkpoint at about 7:30 that night and I believe the shooting took place later," he said.

1. What is a mobile checkpoint? How is it different from
patrolling soldiers?

9. Can you put your tongue against both sides of your cheek at ....
...once?

Of course Negroponte knew, so did the military that this Italian reporter was being freed and was going to be heading straight for the airport.

13. No, don't be afraid. Just welcome to "Bizarro World", Iran/Contra,
Part II.

I just can't wait for Part III!

Poppy comes back. Although I do firmly believe he and all his cronies are running things now, they just use Georgie boy, they wind him up every morning and Rove handles him all day.

7. But...but...it was reported yesterday that "Senior Officials" Negroponte
travel by helicopter to the airport because the road is so unsafe. That only "officials not senior" take the road.

So....what's the deal here? The report I quote was in WaPo I believe.

Butt covering, I think...:eyes: Negroponte isn't going to take a chance on that road in the dark...it's preposterous.

Which version or lie coming from the administratio/military/Italian government do you want to believe? Lie, convolute, speculate, pontificate is a great way to muddy the waters and keep the concerned public off balance.

8. Obviously "they" are working to spin the story --
one of their lies will stick and get repeated and accepted by the sheeple as "truth".

Any Senator who voted to approve Negroponte is guilty of murder. Just mhy personal opinion.

16. Obviously, now the checkpoint did not have ALL of the same measures as
was originally reported and typically associated with a standard checkpoint.

Someone has discovered that the checkpoint did not have all the bells and whistles, so now they are trying to mitigate (steal the thunder) the damage to come from more facts to come.

Still, why would a checkpoint in place after Negroponte had already passed.

How long had he cleared the area?
Did they have the standard string of lights, signs, and warnings or were they in the process of removing them?

We may soon find out that the journalists car had not reason to know that a checkpoint was in place--what then?

Accountability from the * Administration or more spin zone from the Conservative talking faces?

We know what to expect and accountability ain't coming soon from these kooks.

10. Not a very high rating.
You have given the news article Iraq Checkpoint Where Italian Killed Was for U.S. Envoy a rating of 5.

Its current average rating is 3.85 with 46 votes.

Is switching from helicopter to auto travel because of hail common in Iraq? Just wondering.
